Aiight, so I was guaranteed a spot in Weyburn a while back. When I filled out the housing interest form, I checked the boxes for studio, apartment, and townhouse. My last choice was studio (though I don't think there was any way to indicate that on the application). Low and behold, I was placed in a studio. I don't mean to be a brat, because I am very excited about being given a spot in Weyburn. But, I reaaaally don't want to live in a 385 sq. ft. studio.

Do you guys know if I we can change assignments?

Anyone else get their assignment? What building ("court") are you living in?

When is your move-in date?

how did get your assignment???!!! I also have an allocated spot in Weyburn but I haven't got my assignment. I went to the housing office last Tuesday. The housing people told me they'd do the assignments sometime in June (most likely the 1st two weeks of June). 😱 hmmmm... very stange!!!

i hate to be that guy, but if you didn't want to live in a studio, why mark it on the application 😕

the good news is that a studio is probably cheaper than the other choices... and you really only need your apartment for a bed and kitchenette. is there a W/D, dishwasher, or icemaker?

Why, you ask...

I received an e-mail from Noemi that made it sound like I was guaranteed a spot in Weyburn or another building. At the time I completed the housing application form, I didn't realize that my Weyburn spot was guaranteed. I thought that only marking two of the options would make my chances worse for Weyburn. Had I known I was guaranteed Weyburn, I would have only checked studio or townhouse.

The place comes with utilities, cable, internet, underground parking (additional cost), fridge, dishwasher, microwave, stove, and central air and heating. The W/D is not in the apt. The studio is $910/month whereas the 2 bedrooms are $888/month.

Here is what the email said (below). I am sure people will be hearing any time. My last name is early in the alphabet, which may have something to do with it.

Ahh, I wish there was a way to see the apartments before move-in...

Anyone know if we can arrange something with the housing office?

It says that payment is due on June 6th. Does that mean we have to pay (rent) before we receive our financial aid offers? Is that fair?

yeah. go to the website in my post. it says something about what to do if you will be receiving financial aid. nevertheless, money is due by that date. sucks eh..

I just got my offer today for a 2 bedroom Weyburn T spot. If there is a way to engineer a trade -- you get the 2 bedroom and I the studio would you be interested.

T spot?! What's that? For some reason, I can't even make the initial payment 😕 (i.e. when I sign into my account I see nothing)

same. It its gets to a point where there is a button to hit continue... and then it says select a time period or something. And it there is none to select.

So do we gotta drop 1000 bucks by june 6? I got 173 in my bank account right now... better start lookin under the cushions.

Hey all,

I visited Weyburn today. All I have to say is the place is SICK! It is gorgeous.

A couple things:

There is a renting office that can show you the apartments. I happened to run into someone and he showed me his studio. Needless to say, I have decided to keep the studio. Nevertheless, I don't think there is a bad apartment in the place. I clocked the distance to the dental school, and it is .5 miles, which takes no more than 10 minutes to walk. Going to the d-school, we would pass by a pharmacy, a coffee bean, ralph's, best buy, in-n-out (which is awesome for you out-of-staters), and so much more. Though I will take my car, I doubt I will ever need it, unless I go to the beach. There is also guest parking underground that is gree form 9pm-7am. For those of us with gf's or bf's, this is very convenient.

If anyone has any questions, hit me up.

That's exactly the problem I have. 😡

Not sure how much, but I better teach more classes...I've spent all my money on stupid things... :scared:

Try again...It's working for me now. 🙂

when you looked at the studio, what kind of furniture did the guy have? Also, can we really NOT have a queen size bed or larger? Its BS that they say we should buy a twin size bed. Thats the size bed we had in the DORMS during undergrad. Also, what is in-n-out?

Oh my friend you are in for the surprise of your life. In n Out is only the best, cheapest, fastest burgers around. On august one when you get there... you best find one ASAP.

Also....

When/how do we get roomate assignments. Because if I get DATstudent as a roomate, Imma have to invest in some earplugs because I have a feeling he will be a PARTY ANIMAL! 😉 😀 😉 😀

me, a party animal??!!! no way!!!!

I am so worried about the apartment-mate assignments. I am thinking about purchasing a tent to camp outside on the lawn just in case my apartment-mate is too noisy

The studio I went in was one of the abnormally shaped ones, and it definitely acommodated a double/full or queen. The guy told me even the normal ones will be okay with that size bed.

From what I heard when talking to people, all you need is a bed (queen or cmaller), a dresser, a small entertainment center (but preferably put your TV on your dresser), a small desk, and something to sit on (like a loveseat or recliner). These are the most basic pieces of furniture. The guy said to use vertical space rather than horizontal space; like buy a tall dresser intead of a wide one, which seems obvious.

In-N-Out is seriously the best burger joint you can go to. I believe they are only in California, and they serve amazing burgers and fries.

aHHHHHH... so anxious to get out there! cant wait

I'm from southern California, born and raised, and I must say that NOTHING beats IN N OUT!!!! There is not a fastfood joint out there better! Suggestions:

Double-Double, grilled onions.
Fries, well done animal style
Strawberry shake

DONE DEAL!

back in undergrad, some of my friends and I had an annual event where we would go to in-and-out and order a huge burger to see who can eat the whole thing. we got to an 8X8 by the time we gradauted!
