I have an interview at UCLA on April 4th. I am out of state and was wondering if anyone has any idea if I even have a shot being interviewed this late. ALSO, IF ANYONE COULD PROVIDE ME WITH SOME INSIGHT ON THE INTERVIEW (since interview feedback is still down), PLEASE GET BACK TO ME ASAP.

Thanks so much all and good luck!!!!

I have one April 12th and I have a strong feeling that those that havent interviewed yet are doing so for waitlist spots. Who knows though, if you are an excellent candidate and would prefer UCLA to your other schools, give it a shot if the money isnt a limiting factor.

hcrc74,
As far as whether you're interviewing for a waitlist position or not, I have no idea. But here's some info on the interviews: I had two interviews, one with a student and one with a faculty member. The student interviewer had read my entire file and had a paper with a bunch of questions on it that he went through and jotted notes on while we spoke. Although it was a bit more formal than I think student interviews are usually, it was not very stressful. My faculty interviewer had not read my file, but I think he was given my essays to read or something like that. He asked me very general questions about med school and my life, etc. Very laid back and conversational.
My advice: be well-versed in your application (for the open file interview) so you can easily discuss any aspect of your file. Otherwise, just be yourself. It really wasn't that bad.

chances of gettin in:
If they asked for a secondary like 3 or 4 months ago and they want to interview you now, then it probably means that you are going for the waitlist spot. However if you happened to apply reeaaaaaaaaaaaly late and they wanted to interview you 1 week after secondary submission, you can bet that they want u badly. But I suggest don't worry about that, just go in there w/ your chin up and be positive.

Good luck!! How far will you have to travel?

seems like every1 had a laid-back interview but me. anyways, it's the luck of the draw; good luck!

All The Way from Northwestern 🙂 . I just find it strange that within a month they told me to send my secondary and then called me for an interview and asked for transcripts. Since I am out of state, I assume my chances are slim...hopefully the $300 plane ticket is worth it 🙂

Does anyone know the grading system ucla uses?

I'm pretty sure it's pass/fail.

UCLA is definitely pass/fail

As for chances of getting in interviewing this late...I called them a couple days ago and was under the impression that they continue interviewing until they fill the class. Of course this late in the game it's definitely going to be harder getting an acceptance, but I don't think this is necessarily for a waitlist position. Also, there are still people who interviewed in Nov/Dec still waiting so I wouldn't give up hope yet!

As for interviews. Some people get a student interview and some don't. On the day I interviewed only 2 our of 12 or so students had a second interview with a student. Interviews were very casual...nothing unusual.

Good luck!

my interview at ucla was very similar to barb's expereince. my faculty interviewer greeted me and then took btwn 5-10 minutes to read my file before the interview started. it was conversational but pretty thorough. after that i had a student interviewer. he had read through my entire file in great detail. he was very laid back (i think this is a prerequisite for ucla), but we covered almost every activity that i wrote about in amcas. he took notes during the interview (presumably to assist in presenting me to the committee later on).

unlike other schools i intervieweed at, less of the questioning stemmed from my personal statement. i guess this is because many interviewers are too lazy to read beyond it.

as for how late it is in this game, i wouldn't worry. it's out of your hands, anyway. my facutly interviewer told me not to read anything into the timing of my interview (i interviewed in late march). he said that this is indicative of nothing other than the terrible inefficiency of their admissions/screening process.

thanks so much guys, i appreciate all the advice...any more before tomorrow would be great

anyone else interviewing on the 4th?

i'll be there on the 5th. good luck!!!

did a lot of people interview at the same time?

I'm interviewing on the 25th. I was told that the interviews are not for waitlist positions but for the Fall entering class. So there still is hope, people 😀
