This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I hear you....I sit patiently with my cell phone duct taped to my hand waiting in suspense. I think Amalgam4u got an acceptance, then again that dudes the man with those stats. Thought I would just post to say "you are not alone!!!!". I sit at work and my co-workers get pissed each time I look at my phone.

hahaha Ill prolly do the same thing from now on. let's hope for the best! good luck !!!😀

good luck guys! UCLA was actually my only acceptance, so it makes me that much more grateful.

Big C (amalgam), you are going to have to explain to me how the heck someone like you, with great stats and a very easy going way about you (which was very evident when we spoke) had to A.) apply twice and B.) only have UCLA give you an acceptance. Congrats, I bet you went out and had a blast last week when you found out! And IoP, keep me up to date on any new developments, I'm curious to know when my optimism should take a southern turn.

hah! you're too kind... you're pretty easygoing yourself! good classmate material if you ask me. 👍

but yea, like axum said. probably b/c of late application. finishing school turned out to be more time consuming than i had planned.

Unfortunately being classmates probably won't happen. Alternate listed today by Noemi, *sigh*. I guess that means I blew my interview....again. Would have been fun to stay close to home. I wish you guys the best of luck! Would have been fun to be classmates.

sorry to hear that =/ but you never know about those waitlists. they're full of surprises. did you interview/accept anywhere else?

Wow your stats are great Amalgam.. I go to UCI too and keeping a 4.0 throughout is an incredible feat... great job. So I was looking at your predent app and just out of curiosity, how the heck do you have over a 4.0 for both overall/science GPA? Also did you get an interview with UCSF? You def seem like you should have gotten into a lot more places. Anyways, cheers to a fellow anteater haha... ZOT ZOT ZOT

lol too kind. I dont really know. I put in all the courses and grades from my transcript and that's what AADSAS gave me as my gpa. My UCI GPA was lower. I think it might count honors classes as 5.0's or A+'s as 4.3's. I'm really not sure about how that happened though. I had a couple non-A's so I really didn't get a straight 4.0. But I'm happy with AADSAS's assessment!

And no interview w/ UCSF. I think I turned in my secondary too late. There was a 30 day window or something that I may have gone over. I'm bad with that stuff =/. zot zot to you too!

Hey I'm not sure about your time schedule etc, but if you're interested in research, try to get into Petra's lab. She's really really good about letters. and every year a person from her lab goes to ucla. This year one's going to UOP too I think. That's one thing I would definitely have done differently had I known about it. She's at BLI across the street from campus village.

I hope so, then again Noemi was not very encouraging when I spoke to her yesterday. They rank after they interview more people next month so now I'm competing (I hate using that word but it fits quite well) with even more people for those spots that 'might' open. I have to feel sort of blessed though having even been interviewed there, quite humbling actually. Considering my stats were quite lower than their average its a miracle I was even there in the first place. But I will keep my head up, phone call the crap out of them so they don't forget me and put all my efforts towards getting ready to go to the school I already placed a deposit down on. I'm just hoping that being an alternate was not just a nice way of giving me the finger, then again they could have just rejected me. Best of luck Big C!

Yea, I'm a third year already doing protein research. I actually applied to her lab when I was looking for research, but her lab was full until like spring quarter of last year and I wanted to find research before then, so I found another lab. Her research actually seems pretty cool though. Did you just graduate this year?

Thanks, best of luck to you too. remember that your interview also came from out of the blue (or at least I felt like mine did...).

Heh, good for you. I guess if you couldn't start this year, it woulda been hard for her to get to know you. But it's still a good experience I think. There are jars and jars of teeth in that BLI coldroom... hah. I graduated spring 07, so last year, yea. I took a year off. Well, not intentionally, but... you know. Worked out pretty well. 👍 Did you apply this cycle, or you gonna take a year off?
