Thought I would post this here as well just in case...

Hey Everyone,
We lost our intern and are currently looking for someone to finish out the year here at UCLA OMS. This will be a continuation of the one year intern spot. Your functions will be the same as those of the R1's. You will be very busy (despite rumors of the country club). Your exposure to oral surgery will be excellent. Lots of dentoalveolar sx, IV sedations (tons), in the OR (actually assisting not just watching), implants...all of it.
If you have any interest in being considered for this position, please contact one of our attendings at the following to send a CV. Don't worry about a personal statement, just the CV is desired at this time.

what should you have on your resume to get accepted for an externship in OS?

An externship is usually only for 2-4 weeks and occurs during dental school. It is designed to let you get experience in OMS and demonstrate you are committed. An internship is 1 year in duration and generally done by people who don't match into an OMS residency. It is designed to make you a more attractive candidate by increasing your experience and demonstrating your understanding of the specialty and commitment. So, if you want to do OMS and are in dental school you do an externship, if you are out of dental school you do an internship. Competitive externships may want NBDE-I above 90, letters of rec from 3 OMS faculty. Usually getting an externship going is not a big hullabaloo.
