Two week blocks:
I do think that the two week blocks are a bit weird, but that's not playing a major role in my decision. I think that the PD is probably the best I've seen on my over-done interview trail, but that's just me. I also felt like his teaching rounds at Cedars were really awesome, and I was paying attention the whole time without trying or being bored.
Traveling between hospitals:
I've run into a lot of people on the trail that come from single-site peds med schools. My med school is basically one of two in the entire state, so I'm used to multi-site peds, and I love it. It isn't going to impact my decision either way (I like some stand alone, and some combined-site programs). I actually loved multi-site as a med student. We had University, private children's, and county peds' sites, which was a great way for me to see three different lifestyles/populations/pay scales. Plus, I think they each have their strengths and weaknesses, so I liked switching it up (and I got sick of a particular site towards the end of a rotation). When I wanted to do peds' cards for a minute (no longer), I saw the life & practice of private, county, and university peds' cards people. Basically, my long-winded answer is that I think you get better career modelling at a multi-site, but I'm looking at both...Plus the new hospital (UCLA) will be sweet and Cedars is in an awesome location (imho).
