Hey guys,

I finished my dat and now trying to do the secondaries. For UCLA, when you type, the lines under the type move. I guess it is a very stupid question, but how do you type for example your name without those lines moving. plz help

This is what I did

MS DOC -> PDF -> PHOTOSHOP (200 PIXEL/sqr INCH)

then used the typing tool.

haha i had some trouble with it as well, can we just write it out...you think they would mind??? Except for the Essay questions which i will attach to the back....

Yeah im going to start filling this out soon, its soooo long and its all the same questions. The only different or specific one is the Why do you want to attend UCLA be as specific as possible. What are you putting for these? I have been looking up some things the school does on there website. But I mean its a good school...

WE RECOMMEND THAT YOU TYPE THIS APPLICATION. IF YOU PRINT IT, PLEASE PRINT LEGIBLY WITH BLACK INK. IF THE COMMITTEE MEMBERS FIND IT DIFFICULT TO READ YOUR WRITING IT WILL REFLECT ON YOUR APPLICATION.

There are several ways to do it:

1) Your favorite word processing program: hit ctrl-U so that your typed responses are underlined, then hit the insert key so that you type over the line provided on the document.

2) Convert to a .pdf, then import the document in to Photoshop and type away. (This is the method I used; it took a little time to align everything, but the finished product looks great).

3) Head down to your local library and use an old-fashioned typewriter.

4)Last resort: pen and ink.

Good luck!

fyi when I did mine last year, I think i just sent it in with the lines being off. It didn't seem to affect my app much. I think they are more concerned with being able to read it...good luck

my bad man im ****ty with computers. It would be nice if you could explain, if not its all good. Will it work with macs? thanks

its really simple actually...

So you got your Word doc. you got mac, print the DOC file as PDF. Then, Drag and drop the PDF to PHOTOSHOP icon. It will ask you for the resolution. Put 200px/sqr in. You will notice that background is not white. make another layer and color it white and put it below the imported pdf document. Then use type tool.

Sorry man, thought you were being sarcastic. It's all good.

So the easiest method is to use mac word. If you press "command+U", text that you write will be underlined. Use this when you want to enter information into the secondary when a line is present (dob, ss, name, etc.). Hit the overwrite icon ("ovr" at the bottom of the window, I think) and when you type, you will type over the line on the app. This will help prevent the formatting from changing too much.

If you have trouble, let me know, and I will try to help you through it. I am a PC guy, so I don't know too much about macs, but should be able to help a little bit. Good Luck!

If you have acrobat and photoshop, sl2obel2ts instructions will work.

If you have trouble with any computer related stuff, try step 3 or 4 in my previous message.

I was wondering how you guys did the SIU secondary, its on PDF but you cant type in like most of the other apps...

So did you guys do it by hand or what?

As long as they can READ your hand writing, I wouldn't stress over writing it. I mean, as we are all college educated, we should be able to write legibly! 🙂
