how many weeks did it take after you were verified to get the UCLA secondary? And if you take the August MCAT, do they wait until October to give a secondary?

i haven't gotten a secondary yet.. the letter just says 'additional info such as supplemental info, transcripts, letters of rec, etc will be requested after initial review.'
basically that they have my primary and are reviewing it..

when i applied last yr, they waited until they got my aug. mcat score to send the secondary. hope that helps, good luck

I checked that website and all it has is a table with the five things but nothing written in it. I was wondering if you guys had the secondary essays for UCLA. Thanks.

I don't think UCLA waits for August MCAT scores.

They do screen your secondaries... You must have high GPA and MCAT 👍

im decent, not that high.. (NOT HIGH BY SDN STANDARDS!)

50% of applicants get the secondary. 1/3 after that get the interview..

again anyone have the questions for the ucla secondary? and if you have them for ucsf that would be appreciated also. thanks.

i have ok mcat and ok gpa.....but i got a secondary from UCLA on 8/16...ucsf sent me an e-mail saying that my file is still under review
hope this helps 🙂

I just logged in and there's data with these options.

MSTP Supplemental Information
Letters of Recommendation
Interview
Transcript
Final Decision Letter
Withdraw From MSTP

Does that mean I passed the screen? It says my data was uploaded on 8/24/06.....and yesterday it said no records found. I haven't received email or written notification from UCLA at all.

Here are the questions I got from their secondary:

UCLA
There is a limit of 800 characters allowed for essay responses. This includes spaces and punctuation.

Extracurricular Interests and Activities

Describe involvement in the ONE most important non-academic activity that has been important in your life?

What has been the ONE most unique leadership, entrepreneurial or creative activity in which you participated?

What has been the ONE most important volunteer work you have done and why was it meaninful?

Scholastic Activities
What is the ONE most important honor you have received? Why do you view this as important?

What has been your most scholarly project (thesis, research or field of study in basic or clinical science or in the humanities)? Describe one and give number of hours, dates and advisor.

Personal
Describe a problem in your life. Include how you dealt with it and how it influenced your growth.

List major paid work experience during (or since) college. Give dates, description, approximate hours worked (list the most recent first).

If there is any hardship to which you would like the committee to give special attention in evaluating your application, then check the box labeled 'Hardship' and briefly explain why you are indicating a hardship. Include any geographic, language, economic, academic, physical, or mental factors.

Where do you see yourself in 10 years? What experiences have led you to this goal?

I was verified in mid-June and haven't heard boo from them. I'm took the August MCAT.

OK - I couldn't find a thread for questions on the UCLA secondary - maybe someone here has some suggestions:

1) They require 3 LORs from "individuals who can evaluate my research potential". Does this mean the LORs can only come from profs I have done research with ? I have 2 letters from Profs I did research with & am not sure what to do for the 3rd letter. I was planning on getting a letter from a nurse in the ER where I volunteer. If that won't work can I ask a graduate student at my lab to give me a reco?

2) I am applying for MSTP . So do I need to complete an MD only application as well? or do they use the same application for MSTP & MD.

3) They want a list of profs whose work I am interested in. Am I allowed to contact the profs to get more info about their research? Is there a list of profs/labs somewhere or do I need to search each department individually.

4) They want me to pick areas of interest in which I want to pursue my grad studies. I have a strong mathematics and bio-mechanical modeling background. If I say I am interested in these fields, will I be viewed as narrow minded (i.e. not open to research in other fields). I know very little about research in cell bio/molecular bio/etc ,so I don't know how interested I will be in pursuing research in these fields.

Thanks,

1) I doubt an ER nurse can evaluate your research potential. Do you have a faculty member/mentor from your college that has gotten to know your research ability? ex. a research program coordinator or professor

2) MSTP uses the same application as the MD-only app, but with one extra essay -- the 8000 character statement of purpose, on top of the 8 optional short essays.

Was admitted for the secondary four days after my AMCA was verified. Then again, I'm a UCLA student, maybe it's automatic for us.

Think I was about the same. Non-UCLA student but am a UC student. The better UC BTW😉

The one with no med school and a crappy basketball team?

No the one with the football team ranked 7th.. Bitch🙄
The original UC, not the the one with baby blue for a color and a stolen school song.

By original, you mean old and decaying city. Which is the reason for the good football team: need a few big hairy tough guys to live in a rundown town.
We can't afford a real school song because we're busy constantly building; new hospitals, gyms and neuroscience institutes don't come cheap you know.

Cheers from Bel-Air.

A run down city?!? Ummm....ok???
Enjoy your mediocre football team.
And with all your spending it's a shame none of your departments (except medicine) can pull any sort of a decent ranking.
You will always be second rate. Get used to it.

Just be patient buddy. I was out of state and it took me about a month. I don't anything about August though.

hi - thanks for your reply - I have worked in 2 research labs, so I can probably get 2 LORs from 1 lab and 1 LOR from another. Is it OK if I get a LOR from a grad student who worked with me?
