For those of you who took the August MCAT, applied to the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA and are waiting for a secondary, you might want to check out UCLA's status page at:

https://www.medstudent.ucla.edu/applications/appstat/appforms/status04.htm

I never received an e-mail from them but when I entered my info to see what was going on, the website indicated that I had been approved to fill out a secondary 2 days ago. One of my friends was complaining about not receiving a secondary from them for a long time and now I'm wondering whether he had been approved for a secondary the whole time but just never received an e-mail.

Alexander99: How are your stats? I've been waiting on a secondary for months - since September even 😕 Still early you say? I know, but I can't help but be worried.

Did you check the status web page? What did it say?

My stats are pretty much average GPA, above average MCAT.

All four areas of the status page are blank. They don't say anything. I check every day... sad, huh?

Even UCSF sent me a secondary before them. Come on!

My GPA (science and non science) are above their average, but they don't publish their MCAT average because I hear it's pretty low.

UCLA Posts stuff on the status page, then send you a letter via snail mail. This includes invitation for secondary and for interviews.

It probably means they're thinking about sending you one (better than a rejection.) It may not hurt to call them at this point since you've been waiting so long.

I liked UCSF's e-mail once my verified application was received by them. "You will hear from us in 3-10 weeks whether we request that you fill out a secondary." How long did UCSF take to receive? I heard about 2 weeks.

UCSF took about 2.5-3 weeks. They were suprisingly quick, seeing as how many more people want to go there than UCLA. Don't quote me on that, though.

So, since Drew is in trouble, does that translate into trouble for UCLA too since they are affiliated with one another?

FYI- I just got UCLA's secondary about a week ago. I took the Aug MCAT and submitted my app about a week later.

My stats look like Alexander's, and since I'm an Oregon resident, I'm not sure if it's even worth doing the secondary.

edit: Oh, and I have yet to hear from UCSF. I'm expecting a letter from them like I got from Stanford. 👎

All of it is still blank.

So the consensus then is that on the UCLA status page, if everything is still blank, they are waiting to decide whether to give you a secondary. Can anyone confirm that if you are rejected pre-secondary, the status page will indicate this?

The chance is like almost zero. UCLA has solid funding and its programs haven't been in trouble recently. Drew is a separate entity but its students have basic science training at UCLA.

Thanks Caleb, but I guess I should be worrying about UCLA AFTER I get a secondary, right? UCLA and Davis are taking their sweet time 🙁
