Any thoughts on this program? They seem to be quite DO friendly (which is good for me). However, I am not sure how friendly they will be with regards to only having a COMLEX Level 1 (less than 500) too.

How well is the program regarded amongst others? I have seen some previous threads but was wondering if anyone had a recent viewpoint. I know this is highly individual as to what you want out of the program.

Thanks in advance.

I think it's a good program. It's obviously less competitive to get an interview there than the big UC programs but as to what that means for a low COMLEX score, idk.

Look...it's all speculation until you have the interview invites, so apply, and see what happens.

Thanks, yes, I'll see. it would be great to get some concrete info but I'll just apply and see why happens

Looking for concrete information outside of the lucky circumstance of talking to the PD here or a chief resident is a flawed proposition.

The best way to do it is to think of it comparatively. If the average psych applicant has a 500 and applied to x programs to get y interviews you apply to 1.5x or 2x programs and so on. There's so many solid to great programs that rarely get mentioned here that casting a decent net and matching is easily done with your intuition and common sense.

Kaweah Delta just opened a new program and somebody interviewed there last season. My guess is they will be a great program for rural california. UCSF fresno is an awesome program that anyone would be lucky to match at--fresno the city not so bad but hardly gem-like...but the program is awesome. And so on.

All you have to do is go 1 or 2 blocks off the main drag of application chatter here and you can find all sorts of hidden gems. And by that I mean you will have the opportunity to become a great psychiatrist while working with great people.

One last thought.

It is clearly not as simple as factoring your step 1 score.

Use other modifiers too. And sprinkle in the caution of the match getting more competitive with each season.

thanks i'll give it a shot & thx for the other suggestions too
