Hi,

I was looking over the projected cost of education for UCLA and I was just curious to know if you all spent close to the estimated ~20k that the school lists under "Books/Supplies/Instruments" during your D1 year.

Thank you for your input!

You never have to buy books. Our dental kit is about 12-14k a year. Other then that there's not much else. Maybe couple of fake teeth for you to practice drilling on.

first I wouldn't say you NEVER have to buy any books. there are definitely quite a few classes with assigned readings from which exam questions are drawn. the oral surgery book for one is actually very useful to have. come to think of it, there are quite a few classes for which books are required/very useful.

secondly, the dental kit for the first year was something like 17k for us. and no, it's not just 'a couple of fake teeth' for you to drill on. try a couple of hundred total for the operative and fixed classes, for both required projects and if you'd like to practice and equilibrate your typodont before major practicals/exams. toss in burs and other materials I'd say yes the 20k would probably be just about met.
