hi all,
i am a foreign trained dentist and i ve been called by ucla for interview this dec4th and 5th.they ve sent us a syllabus for the practical test and it includes all the cast and amalgam preps including the die prep.
since am very new to this country and not been taken the bench course i dont know much about the practical skills they look for.
since most of you might ve done it already in your preclinics i guess i will get the right info from this forum.

1) i would like to know whether we ve to apply rubber dam to typodont before doing the preparations and if so how ?

2)how does the amalgamator work here do they give precapsulated amalgam and if so how to handle the amalgamator?

3)while preparaing for die how does this pindex system work?

these questions might sound silly for students in this forum but i ve no other go and i am very curious to know because i am not used to all these equipments before.any reply will be really helpful.

thanking you all

Hi,
I took the bench prep course in UCLA with Doctor Stevenson. In the mock board exam we didn't apply rubber dam until we submitted the preparation. During that course we had to buy our own pre-capsulated amalgam; it was easy to use.
We had the syllabus with detailed steps on how to do the die.
Good luck!
