I called yesterday and was told they will be sending out one more round of interview invites for April (I don't know how many...)

I interviewed on February 27 and got an acceptance call yesterday.

Congrats on the acceptance...in line with getting back to people in a week.

And now the decision between Columbia and UCLA or do you know what you're going to do?

Chops - I think I interviewed with you at USC on the 26th - Red group right!!! Either way - congrats on UCLA acceptance!

Congrats on the acceptance. I hope you go to UCLA but then I'm being biased because that's where I graduated from dental school. But either way, I see a strong possibility that you're going to end up specializing like everyone else at UCLA and Columbia. Good luck on your decision. You can't go wrong either way.

so after months of waiting and not hearing anything from ucla, i just got an interview invite for april 3rd. i've basically made up my mind on going to columbia, but i told myself that if there is one school that i'd still check out, it'd be ucla. does anyone know how full the class is? i'm just trying to weigh my options here, and try not to get too excited about the school! ahhh what do i do now??

congrats Jlee, i want that interview so badd, i have a Q, is the interview for alternate position? does it say that its for alternate on the email?

the only thing that it says about the waiting list is: "As it is near the end of our interview process, we would like to inform you that a successful interview may not guarantee a position in the Class of 2013. If this is the case, you will be placed on our waiting list."

Do you guys think that I have a chance of getting in? or if this interview will most likely be for a position on the waitlist? i think last year 24 out of 24 applicants who interviewed as an out-of-state applicant were accepted..does anyone know how full ucla is right now?

jlee I'm in the same position you are. Got the email yesterday and was pretty frustrated that they took this long! I'm still sticking with UCSF instead, but in case you go, I talked with Noemi in admissions and she said as far as she knew there were a couple of spots open and a couple of people who still hadn't committed to their acceptance yet, so they aren't entirely sure whether there will be openings left over. In the case of being waitlisted, she said last year they only took about 5 from the list. Hope that's some helpful info...

Does that mean you'll come to UCLA if they accept you?

i definitely wasn't counting on getting an interview at ucla at all, so this is definitely a pleasant surprise for me. i'm gonna try to go to ucla with an open mind and see if i like it out there, i would definitely consider it if i like it enough and get in...

Since I've contacted Naomi approximately 3,704,630,900 times myself for a variety of reasons... I feel it would be better for someone who has already been accepted into the program to do this. Don't get me wrong. I love to death UCLA's unselfish policy of reviewing applicants, keeping them in the dark for several months, and sending their rejection letter at the end of the entire cycle 🙂thumbdown), I need to know if I'm holding on to false hope.

If an accepted student, who has nothing to lose (i.e. already accepted so won't jeopardize chances of getting an interview by annoying the admissions committee), can call Naomi and ask:
1)How many more interviews there are
2)When the last day to receive an interview is
3)What the last actual interview date is
4)etc.
...it would probably provide a lot of comfort for many people on SDN, especially myself.

Thank you in advance!

i'm assuming april 3 is the last round of interviews drillbit was talking about..but i'm not 100% sure.

Anyone know when the last day of interviews are and how full the class is? I will call them tomorrow but if anyone knows that will save me a phone call 😀 thanks

I just wanted to give you a heads up. UCLA is currently setting up for the WREB exam starting this Thursday. The school has been closed off to all of the dental students this entire week. Everyone at the school is pretty stressed out right now trying to get the school ready and not in a good mood. This may not be the best week to call.

I interviewed on March 13 and I got the acceptance call yesterday 🙂 I'm definitely going to UCLA!!! I'm so freaking excited I don't know what to do with myself. Good luck to everyone who's still waiting!!!!!!

I just got an e-mail today for an interview (for an alternate position)! I'm still excited about it, since I'm already accepted to USC, but I figure it can't hurt to still be open to possibilities!!! Anyone else get an email from UCLA today? The interview dates available were April 7, 10 and 14th.

congrats on the interview! i emailed noemi today and she told me that the class is about 90% full, including a few people who were just recently accepted (i'm guessing these are the people who were accepted a couple of days ago). my interview is set up for april 3rd but she said it was too early to tell whether or not i will be interviewing for a position on the alternate list or for a seat in the class. does anyone know if they interviewed people last friday or will be holding an interview this friday? i'm just curious as to what my odds are..

That means that there are about 8 or 9 seats left for the incoming class. That's plenty of open seats for an acceptance in my opinion. If you kick butt on the interview, there's no reason why you shouldn't be able to get one of those open spots. I'm guessing that they are probably not interviewing anyone this week due to the WREB exam. So if you are interviewing the first week of April, all 8 or 9 open seats should still be available when you interview.

Hi everyone. I'm new to the forum. Well at least posting but I'm also interviewing april 3 and I'm very happy to see some partners in crime. Goodluck to you all

So, does anyone have an idea of approzimately how many people get put on UCLA's waiting list? I have an interview for an alternate position April 7th...however, is it safe to assume for the info that the probability of an acceptance is slim to none off the "alternate" list

Can anyone who has interviewed at UCLA tell me about the essay they require you to write? How long do they devote to this, and what are the interviews like???
Thanks!:luck:

And now the decision between Columbia and UCLA or do you know what you're going to do?
I haven't been back to this thread for a while. I'm pretty sure I'm choosing UCLA over Columbia, but it is a hard choice. There are also a couple places where I'm on the waitlist that, if I got in, would make the choice even harder, but for now, I'm pretty sure I'll be at UCLA.

Chops - I think I interviewed with you at USC on the 26th - Red group right!!! Either way - congrats on UCLA acceptance!
Haha, I'm not actually sure which group I was in, but I was at USC on the 26th, so that was probably me. Got waitlisted there, btw, but I would have chosen UCLA anyway, so eh. How'd it go for you?

Hey I had an interview on 3/13 and the essay topic was pretty much "What will you bring to the class of 2013"? I've also heard "How will UCLA help you achieve your goals?" You get 30 minutes to write the essay and your interviewer will review it before you go in to talk to them. For me it was a really really good way to express myself and got the entire interview discussion off to a good start and more in my comfort zone - I think it really gave my interviewer a good impression of who I am. Good luck!!

just got the call from noemi a few minutes ago. i'm in! i didn't think it'd be possible cause she told us at the interview that the class was full. i am SOOO EXCITED!!!!

Congrats jlee1986! I got a call today too, totally shocked! I'm way excited! Have you decided between Columbia and UCLA? I'm curious how many who interviewed on April 3rd got in today. Anyway, congrats! Good luck to everyone.

jlee, if you go to ucla, and if you're from michigan, I think you will be the third person to be in the class of 2013 that's from MI. I am a D1 there now, and I am the only one from MI in my class, but there are others from D2 and D3 that went to UofM as well..good luck with the decision making

Congrats jlee. I told you that there was still a good chance of getting accepted in April in our last PM conversation did I not? Hopefully, you're now convinced that the whole idea of "how many seats remaining" has very little to do with your chances of getting accepted to UCLA. So I have no clue why predents keep stressing over their chances of acceptance at UCLA when they find out that there aren't that many spots left available. An applicant's chances of getting accepted to UCLA after December 1st is the same regardless of whether there are all 88 spots remaining or there is only 1 spot remaining. That's just the nature of rolling admissions. As long as you kick butt on the interview, even if there was only 1 spot left, the admissions committee will give you that spot. The admissions committee at UCLA either like you or they don't...it's that simple. And if they like you, they will give you a spot if they have one to give. I've been trying to tell people on SDN that until I was blue in the face. I have had really good professional relationships with many of the people on UCLA's adcomms because while I was in dental school, these people were my dental professors and faculty advisors. I have a good feel for how they think. Anyhow, congrats on the acceptance. I hope you decide to go to UCLA. You'll love the weather not to mention the many celebrity sightings that you may have at the UCLA medical center. I was in dental school when Britney Spears went to UCLA for treatment. It was a paparazzi circus but very fun to watch and makes you appreciate the anonymity that most of us have in our lives. Also, you'll love the Westwood movie theater a few blocks away where they often hold big budget Hollywood movie premiers. Let's see...in my 4 years at UCLA's dental school I've been fortunate to have seen Brad Pitt, Angelina Jolie, Will Smith, Owen Wilson, Luke Wilson and a boatload of other celebrities that live in the surrounding areas. During my 3rd year in dental school, I sat 5 feet away from Kal Penn who plays Kumar in the Harold and Kumar movies. He is a UCLA alumni and was eating lunch in the courtyard in front of the UCLA health science bookstore. I can honestly say that celebrity sightings at UCLA is the one perk that no other dental school has and makes UCLA a very unique place to be. Anyhow, congrats once again.

if choosing a school was based on how many celebrities i would see during my time at school, this would be such an easier decision! lol. up until now, i've had my heart set on columbia. i am really honored to be accepted at ucla as a NY resident and am having such a hard decision picking between columbia or ucla, so i need some input from you guys! i started a columbia vs ucla thread in this forum, so please let me know what your thoughts are. ANY help would be greatly appreciated (especially from those who have interviewed at both schools, or matriculated/have graduated recently from either school). thank you in advance 🙂

Congrats Jlee. I received a call from Noemi yesterday too. I honestly pissed my pants while smiling lol. Like I said at the interview when I was talking to you, "UCLA or Bust." Hope you can guess who this is but in any case I'm one vote for UCLA just because I'm going there and that's one less person you have to get acquianted with in our class. CHEA! Class of 2013 go bruins!

Hey guys,

congrats on all of you who got accepted. I really wanted to be in your place.

Black teeth, do you think there is still a chance for people who havent been invited for interview yet?

With several people getting accepted from last week's interview, it would appear that the class is full. But that all depends on how many accepted applicants send in thier deposits. The class isn't officially closed until all 88 people send in thier first deposits. Unfortunately, I don't have any information on that. You'll just have to call the school to check and see. It varies every year.

hey guys, im so shocked, i just got an interview for ucla for alternate position. Can any of you guys who interviewed on APril 3rd and got in tell me if their invitation was for alternate position or not. im so excited. This is my dream

congrats!! when noemi emailed me, it said that we may or may not be interviewing for a seat in the class because it was so late in the application cycle (this was for the april 3rd interview)...best of luck, and kick butt in the interview!

I'm on UCLA waitlist. does anyone know when students holding multiple spots have to decide on one school, opening slots for waitlisted students?? does anyone know the chance of being admitted to UCLA from waitlist? thanks!

hey hokey,

r u on the waitlist or did you interview for alternate spot. Anyone knows if they are the same or how it works?

thanks

hey hockeygrl04 i think i interviewed with you on the 14th. im the huge sharks fan guy. anyways good luck with ucla!

i interviewed for an alternate spot so i guess i'm not officially on the waitlist. I was told by Noemi on March 25 that the 88 spots were filled and that there was no one on the waitlist yet. She said then that the waitlist would be 30 students. At the end of the interview she said they would rank the waitlist for students that interviewed April 7, 10, and 14th (and perhaps people from April 3rd that were not accepted) and that it could be as little as one person or as many as ten that get in off the waitlist. guess we have to wait and see...

hey guys! i'll be giving up my spot at ucla tomorrow, it would've been a cool experience but i'm sure NYC won't let me down either lol. i hope one of you guys end up getting in! best of luck!
