I've already gotten lots of good responses on this topic from the dental forum, but was interested in hearing from you current dentists who have gone through it all and have already entered the real world (hope I don't seem crazy by posting another one of these!):

USC seems to have a more relaxed vibe with happier students, a better alumni base, and better clinical training... whereas UCLA is cheaper, has a better reputation, and is more promising for specializing...

Since I still don't know if I'd like to specialize or not, and since total cost difference might be minimal (UC tuition going up each year, and I have the option to live at home if attending USC but not UCLA), I'm stuck on which is the better option for me.

I suppose the main question for me is (since I don't have any family members in dentistry): does being a USC alum offer substantially more opportunities for connections and obtaining jobs than UCLA? (I plan to remain around the L.A. area, but it seems to be highly competitive now).

And in the case of specializing, which school is the better option? (More people come out specializing from UCLA, but it seems easier to do well at USC and be in the top percentile. Correct me if I'm wrong though.)

Any other opinions on these two schools would be great as well!!

Thanks much in advance! 🙂
