This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.

I'm ******ed.. I just realized i Needed to check the status page.. I got the secondary stuff.. Yay.. do they screen?

deadly secondary. almost as bad as ucdavis one

At least some of them are optional, and the max is 800 characters vs 1500 for davis.

anyway, congrats to all of ya.

Yeah, I got one too. It's great having all of you to tell me when to check things 🙂

In case anyone is curious I am out of state too. I've only heard from UCSD and UCLA... doubt I'll ever hear from the others 😡

yay! Just got it ... Some of the essays are similiar to davis though, so hopefully that will help !

They screen so they probably want your MCAT scores.

thanks pinkertinkle. UCSD, davis and UCI also screen, but they sent me secondary invites without my fall scores.

I took the August MCAT and I just got approved for the secondary today.

Got it today, will try to finish it by 30th (two weeks for such a long 2ndary: 😕 😱 😱 )

UCLA requested a secondary from me today and gave me a 9/30/04 deadline.

is this correct or is it a 2-week deadline?

The first essay question asks for involvement in non-academic activities. Does this mean anything not listed on AMCAS? They have essays for awards and volunteering too. What else is left to write about?

it's 9/30, so about 6 weeks or so

is shadowing a doctor considered "non-academic?"

i think anything that is not part of actual class in school would be considered "non-academic"

so i would say yes if you did this shadowing without the involvement of a classroom.

I got it today too but where does it say about the deadline? I have so many to do! I envy those who are just sitting around waiting! 😎

i never received notification from UCLA that they got my app or that I have a secondary. but I logged on to their status page and discovered I had been granted one. woo hoo! i bet i'll wake up tomorrow to an email.

if anyone else is hankering to check : http://www.medstudent.ucla.edu/frames/admiss.htm

I finished all the ones I had last month. I still haven't gotten UCLA one yet. I'll probably get a rejection letter in mail someday. Be happy that you got one.

When did yo guys get verified by AMCAS? I haven't gotten a secondary yet, but I was verified 7/28.

My AMCAS was verified 6/10. It takes some time for school to download the apps, and they don't tell you when either.

I was verified 6/24 and haven't gotten nottin from westwood.

I got one today in the mail from them. I submitted my AMCAS on 7.24.04 and got verified on 8.4.04. Don't worry, you'll get one. Just make sure your mailing address is current and up-to-date because they mail you, instead of e-mailing.
Good luck

so what is the magic number for how many essays we respond to out of the 9 options for ucla? my friend was admitted to ucla last year and she answered 7 so i know thats good enough. any other thoughts?

would someone be kind enough to post the ucla secondary as is? Thanks in advance.

dayam. i just checked their site to find out that i got one too! they hadn't sent me a confirmation of AMCAS receipt or anything, so i thought i wouldn't hear from them for a while.

does anyone know how strictly they abide to their 5 recs max rule? i have 6, but i'm nontrad, so only three are from school people, 2 are from my current employer, and 1 is from my advisor...

yay yay. my school sends me their love....ok now all i need to do is get an interview and get in...yah.....suuuuuuuure...ha....ok there is always hope. if i do get in....i'll have the worst stats in the whole class! woohoo for the underdog!

I got a letter in the mail today from UCLA saying they recieved my application from AMCAS but when I went online to check my status everything was blank. Where's the actual secondary? I took the August MCAT, will everything stay blank until scores come in?

Hi SDNers,

I just want to say THANKS! I hadn't received anything from UCLA yet and just from looking at the forums today i decided to check my app status and i found i was invited to do their secondary too! This 2 week deadline sucks though....my UCI and UCSD apps are due at the same time!

me too. bastards

What on earth are you talking about a two week deadline? It's 9/30 on mine- is it different for different people? And did anyone get some sort of notification or is it simply through the status page? I am currently stranded without access to my postal mail so I was just curious? Good luck with the novel-

I feel you.. mine is 9/30 too. i don't know what these guys are talking about 😕

i think everyone who has gotten the secondary so far has a due date of 9/30. the people who say they have a two week deadline for ucla either misread the date as august 30, instead of september or are probably just confusing it with deadlines of other schools.

as long as you know your own deadline, that's all you really need to know.

Whoops! Sorry, i got caught up in the excitement of getting a secondary. mine is also due on 9/30. (huge breath of relief) Well i'll try to get it in early anyway...it's not as terrible as some others.

sorry for the confusion: it is due 9/30, not in two weeks. what a relief!

For the non-academic activity I wrote about something that wasn't in my AMCAS, for others I expanded about activities that were in the AMCAS. I wrote about things that I though would give the AdCom a better idea about the kind of person I am.

Would anybody kind enough to post the UCLA essay prompts on the web or email them to me, PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE 🙂 🙂 🙂
