Who's done this program? What's it like? How many people are in it? Does it get a thumbs up? I don't hear very much about it on this forum. Thanks.

I have my interview for the UConn Post Bacc. but there seems to be little to no information about the program. Can someone who has completed it or is currently enrolled offer some advice.

I called and spoke with someone from the department and they told me that they do offer some of the graduates a spot in the Medical School Class followign completion of the program as long as they maintain a certain GPA.

I have been accepted to Drexel IMS, im waiting for SMP and like I said I have an interview with the UConn program.

any insights would be helpful.

thanks

They apparently do offer some people a conditional acceptance to the Medical school if they maintain a certain GPA and achieve the class average on the MCAT which is around 30-31. By the way, when did you get the interview invite? Was it for program A or B? was it by regular mail or email.

i got a phone call to schedule an interview. My dilemma is that I do not know if Drexel IMS and Georgetown SMP are better options than the UConn option.

I received a phone call for an interview and here's the kicker--there's so little info available on the website that I'm not sure if the interview is for Program A or B. I'm hoping to find that out before the interview. I was a neuroscience major undergrad, but am lacking a few lab prereqs. I would not be willing to take all the major science prereqs over again in 2 year program, however (I don't see the need to invest that kind of time and money when my GPA isn't that low). I was told by Dean Keats to mark both Program A and B on my application and he would determine which, if either, would be more applicable for a student in my circumstance. I'm hoping to speak directly with students who are considering the program or who have completed it. Comments, thoughts, etc.?

Why not just e-mail Dr. Sanford to find out which program you are interviewing for, and if it isn't the program that you are interested in, then don't bother with the interview.

you're completely correct, that's what I SHOULD and probably will do. but i do enjoy taking the time to laugh at the whole application process and how little info I have felt available througout. I wrote a cover letter with my application explaining my dilemma and I wrote an email to Dr. Sanford bfhand asking him to tell me which program I would be applying to (so I wouldn't be wasting my time in or theirs--I only want Program B) but I couldn't get an answer out of him. I would think at this point I would get an email response saying something along the lines of "you have been selected to interview for program B." I have to laugh at the whole thing, because truth to tell, otherwise I find it a little frustrating, but thanks for the good advise which I will do eventually.

You shouldn't be terribly concerned with whether you're interviewing for program A or B. I imagine many applicants don't fit neatly into one program or another. You'll talk about the coursework they want you to complete at the interview. That's probably why you've had a hard time trying to figure it all out (and why Dr. Sanford hasn't been helpful).

Know that they are most interested in candidates who want to attend their medical school. If you have your eye on attending another school, then perhaps another program is more appropriate (if you're considering other programs like johnjohnson99). Good luck!

I was in a similar position to yours last year, when I applied to postbac programs. I eventually choose the Uconn program for a number or reasons. First, I really liked the med school itself, and the postbacs get a chance to interview immediately following the postbac year to start med school that fall at UConn. Second, although taking 1st yr med school classes in a program like Drexel or Georgetown sounds more effective in proving you are academically ready, for me I felt it was unnecessary when a program like UConn's existed. I didn't have many upper level undergrad Bio classes at the time, so it was a good fit. Third, the program is very small and I felt I would get more attention from advisors then some of the larger programs. Finally, cost and location were important to me as well.

If youre worried about how successful UConn postbacs are in gaining entry to med school, I believe the rate is pretty high around 85% (I believe that's about where the other programs are). I also believe it's true that many of the postbacs end up attending UConn, but some go to other schools as youre not bound to only apply to UConn in the program. Overall, I definitely liked the program and would give it a 👍

Hello, I was wondering about the application process for UCONN post-baccers to UCONN med school. When do they usually interview for admission to the med school? spring, summer? Is it the same process as everyone else except eliminating the glide year - i.e. amcas app, secondaries etc? Also is it possible to hear yeah or nay from uconn before spending the cash to apply to other med schools?

thanks very much!!!

I'm planning on applying for UCONN post bacc A -to start in spring 2007 so any more insight about the post bacc program, application process etc would be very welcome. thanks again!!

Does anyone know what GPA you have to maintain in their post bac program in order to be accepted to their medical school?
