"What do you see as the most significant issue the medical profession will face in the next forty years?"

Can anyone help with this? I'm Canadian so I don't know much about problems that are apparent in U.S. practice.

Please help. Would it be inappropriate to talk about the Canadian health system?

The question doesn't state specifically the US medical profession. In this case, I think you could probably talk about anything in Canada or the US, from HMOs to genetic manipulation to frivolous lawsuits to socialist medicine to the medicare and medicaid insolvency (do they have such a thing in Canada?)

Thank you. No HMOs, few lawsuits, etc. in Canadian practice.

Ah. in the US one of the biggies lately is the rising cost of medical care and the number of people with inadequate medical care. Also, in some state (Virginia, maybe??) last year a bunch of doctors walked out for 30 days to protest the rise in malpractice insurance.

However, if you don't have these issues, stick to what you know about. Perhaps the moral issues facing doctors? You have lots of people refusing medical treatment that would be life-saving.. you have genetic manipulation.. you have cloning.. you have people chosing traits of their children based on genetic testing.. I'm sure I'm missing a bunch here. What do you think is the biggest problem you'll see in Canada?

The UConn Secondary was so long, I didn't even bother filling it. Perpharps because I already had an acceptance from one of my top schools.

Anyways, Just talk about medical malpractice that seems universal.

good luck

I wrote about the lack of physicians focusing on Canada. Not sure if this is a good way to go considering I'm applying to UConn and mentioning that Canada is in need of doctors! Any opinions?

I sort of think that because this was to be written for a US school and you will be spending at least your school years in US hospitals that you should have addressed a problem inherent to the US system since that is where you will be learning. Maybe for the interview you can focus there.
