Alright so I've narrowed down my list of schools to apply to and I cut out UConn after thinking it over. I'm about to send out my DAT scores and I'm wondering if I should just apply there anyways. I would love to go there even though its a shot in the dark. Looking at my stats, and ECs, what do you guys think? I have at least 300+ research hours and I have a publication as well. Should spend the extra $100 just to see if I had a chance or save the money and forget about it. Most of my family lives in New England although I live in Florida. Any opinions would be great 👍

3.6 and a 19 DAT out of state.....UConn is pretty selective instate and is one of the hardest schools to get into out of state. If you REALLY want to go to school there I think you need to re-take your DAT.....UConn is VERY hard to get into out of state with your current stats I think you might want to save the cash or apply to another school in that area (Tufts, NYU, or BU).

I am not trying to crash your party this is just IMO. If you got the money to spend then I say go for it, its possible that you could get in with your stats its just the odds are not stacked in your favor. Best advice I could give is if its really your first choice then re-take the DATs and increase your odds. Even then its a hard school to get into to.

Best of luck to you this upcoming cycle.

Chapel Hill really likes research so if you have some published studies apply there, its another very selective state school but a great place esp for research.

Hey, why not? Its better to go for it and have no regrets. $100 isn't much in the grand scheme.

I'm currently a 1st yr at UConn and I like it here. I imagine its a bit more intense than some other schools though considering we take the full medical school curriculum for basic sciences the first two years, including full body dissection (except for the reproductive system). Ha, we actually have a little more work than the med students, but its doable. I don't really know much about other school's curriculums though, so I can't compare it to anything. But I figure that it can't hurt you to learn extra stuff. Plus, its Pass/Fail... so technically you just have to pass. You get number grades, but they don't really matter. The school doesn't even rank you, which takes a lot of pressure off of stuff and gets rid of the "gunner" mentality. Plus we only have like 6 med school exams all year and a few easy dental exams, so its possible to relax for a week or two and then study hard before exams if thats how you like to work.

I have friends here that didn't score stellar on everything, so a poor section on the DAT or a slightly low GPA won't necessarily hurt you too bad, as long as you have a lot of other good stuff on your app. But who knows, anything can happen, every year is different.

So yeah, if that description sounds like a school you're interested in, its definitely worth a shot.

give it a shot, i got an interview there last year and im from canada, so u never know 🙂

you should apply if you know you want to go there; $100 isn't really going to seem like much in the long run once you start your application process. i ended up being waitlisted there (i'm a new york state resident)..you can check out my stats on predents if you want (same user name)..

i was really impressed with the program when i visited the campus and it seemed like you get a really good didactic foundation through their program since they are combined with the med school students. the only thing that i didn't really like about uconn was that it was in a really quiet town (farmington)..

good luck with your application!

You can try if you want, but with a TS score of 18, it's a definite long shot. UConn is very proud of its difficult curriculum. Their basic science curriculum is probably the most brutal of all dental schools (they straight up admitted this in the interview). They stressed that they are interested in students that they know can handle their course load. I'm not saying it couldn't happen. If you want to go there really bad, then go for it, just an FYI.
