Anyone currently in or have any information on the combined clinical, counseling, and school psych program at UCSB? Is it a reputable program? I am thinking of going into the school psych specialization..... but also considering waiting another year and applying to a broader range of programs next time around...

I don't attend that program, but I applied to it in my first round of applications. From what I gathered when I was doing research, it is a very reputable program and also extremely competitive. I applied to the clinical specialization, though, so school psychology may be a less popular choice for applicants.

Hi, I applied there this year and visited for an interview (I applied for the clinical branch). I thought it was a great program, and everyone seemed very happy there. It is not typically listed on rankings of clinical programs because it is a combined program, but I know that it has a strong reputation and students do well when applying for internships.

The one things that surprised me during my visit though was the lack of funding. My graduate student host told me that she would be taking out at least 80,000 in loans of the course of her career because she received minimal funding, and during a graduate student "question and answer" session many of them said that they would be doing the same. This surprise me, since the website for the program suggests that there is plenty of funding available.

Ok, just my $.02

The program is highly competitive and well-regarded. That being said, you should definitely have a pretty clear idea about what areas you would like to research.

As far as funding, it really depends on the professor, and what type of work you are doing. I know some students work as clinicians for professors other than their own adviser to ensure funding. I would advise contacting your POI and seeing if he has any grants for the year you will be applying, and if not, see if some other options for funding will be available.
