Hi All,

I just wanted to review the UCSD application a little before the interviews, but it looks like it's been taken down from the website: http://pharmacy.ucsd.edu/admissions.shtml (first link). So yeah, I was wondering if any of you could let me know what the main UCSD app questions were, just in case I forgot any.

Thanks

The only one I remember off the top of my head is something along the lines of "what is your favorite book or movie?" I think they wanted to know that you would be able to discuss something other than science with people. I would have to looked at my application later to give you the rest of them.

number one mistake for any interview is not remembering your answers you wrote for your supplemental application and not being able to describe it in detail.

this is a real story.
i wrote in my application that I liked to read and guess what?
they asked me what was the most recent book i read and to describe it.
guess what again, i haven't read a book in 6 months!!!, except for textbooks
i never felt so humilated in my life. The faculty interviewer from that question on, labeled me as a liar. She stared at her student interviewer repeatedly like I was some kind of liar. It was a like a death trap I couldn't get out of. I was just glad I got out of that room alive!

Hi alittlebored--
The main essay question was to describe an academic hardship you had and then who you learned from it if anything. The small essays in Extracurricular & Personal Activities asked about your school organizations, your community service, your outside interests/extracurrics, intellectual interests (such as a book you recently read and how it affected you), and any additional information you may want to share with them.
Sorry I can't tell you more than that. I'm looking at my printout of the application and it doesn't include the questions! Hope that helps! Do you interview on 1/29 by any chance?

For those of you who have UCSD interviews on weekdays, be sure to give yourself plenty of extra time to find parking. There should be (at least for the 8am interviews) plenty of metered parking available in the Gilman structure and I THINK that when you buy a parking permit you are able to park in the B spaces as well, so that might actually be your best bet. You can only put in change for 2 hours at a time ($1/hour) for the meters and the interview invitation says to expect you'll be there for 4 hours. I know that parking at UCSD, particularly in the area near the Skaggs building, can be pretty tight, so I wanted to let you guys know in advance. 🙂

Ok, so I am stalking the UCSD topics, but I wanted to let everyone know that I just bought a parking permit and there were PLENTY of spaces after all. When I left and the people were coming in for their afternoon interview, still...PLENTY of spaces. No need to worry after all. 🙂

That's great to know, thanks! How did it go? I heard that UCSD's interviews are pretty low-key, so I'm hoping it's the same for this year 🙂

Senzabee,
The interviews were very laid back. Just make sure you have reviewed your supplemental application essays before you go into your interview. My interviewers were interested by a lot of the things I chose to write about and so the interview basically revolved around those essays, of course with the obligatory "why pharmacy/why not medicine" question thrown in there for good measure 🙂 Hope that helps!

if u mention research, how in depth will they go into that? will they just ask what you do and things like that?

I think it really depends on how much you want to talk about it. They asked me about my research and I said maybe 2 or 3 sentences about it and that was it. I'm sure I could have gone on for longer, but I didn't. If it's one of your major strengths, milk it for all it's worth!

As for what, specifically, they are looking for, I have no clue. I wish I knew, because I totally fell in love with UCSD and everything it has to offer during the presentation. More than anything, I think they just want genuine people dedicated to pursuing a life in health care. Just be yourself.
