Hi hi,

I graduated with a 3.09 cGPA and a 2.8 sGPA, primarily due to three C's in chemistry and an F in linear algebra. Since then, I’ve been working on a DIY postbacc through UCSD Extension, taking upper-level courses like physiology, immunology, and biochemistry.

I’m considering completing about 7 more upper level bio like genetics and histology courses, which could bring my GPA closer to a 3.2. Is that likely to make a meaningful difference in admissions, or should I be focusing elsewhere like retaking chemistry labs or targeting formal programs?

Are online chemistry lab retakes accepted by most med schools, or do I need to do them in person?

Is UCSD Extension viewed positively by admissions committees, or is there a better online option?

Due to family issues, I’m currently based outside the U.S., so online courses are most feasible for me right now. I can relocate for in-person classes if necessary, but I'd prefer to know whether it’s truly worth it before making that move.

Any input would be appreciated. Thank you.

Here is my humble personal opinion:
Online class is totally fine, even online labs, just remember some schools don't accept online labs, read MSAR for details. (As far as I know all TMDSAS schools are fine with online labs/classes)
An F in linear algebra is really a harsh blow, why you took that class? That class is even not difficult. Some schools require statistics but not linear algebra. You should explain this in your application as academic difficulty.
As an org chem PhD (and also MS1?), during my tutor time I do see a lot of pre-meds suffering orchem. I would say B (even B-) level is acceptable but C is a little too low. I guess all your C's are from org chem.
When will you be back to US? I would say based on your GPA try most DO's and your state school if you are a resident.
Extra: Try to get MCAT over 505? Not too bad?
Any thoughts and critiques?

Hi thank you for your reply. I will get MSAR to check about the online schools. I took linear algebra in a summer course because I wanted to see if I could go into computer science and I also got really sick and it was an unfortunate fail.

Yeah I got C in gen chem 1 and 2 and in org 1 but got a B in org 2. I was immature and not studying effectively so im planning to at least retake org1. I will probably move back to my home state California in a year and maybe apply for the 2027-2028 cycle after making more gpa improvements and maybe getting at last a 510 mcat

Are my chances at MD totally gone?
