UCSD Hold for Interview

Anyone get UCSD's hold for interview? This is my first response from a school regarding interviews. What does the hold really mean? That an interview is unlikely? Is it cruel way of eventually rejecting the applicant who's too mediocre?

Has anyone gotten an interview who was initially put on the hold list? What school? How long was the wait from hold to interview?

So stressful...

I'm on hold for interview as well. I think it means that it's possible that you'll get an interview (not immediately rejected post-secondary) but they're checking out more people in the meantime.

I don't even think UCSD has given out rejections. Seems like everyone got put on hold.

My primary was complete mid-July, my UCSD secondary complete around end of August.

Lots of people get put on hold. Its not good news, but its not a rejection.

I got off of a hold at UCI 7 months after being put on it and ultimately was accepted.

Instigata a guy who doesn't post often anymore got in off the hold at UCSD.

I would recommend writing a letter telling them how well you fit their school if you really want to go there - interest is key in getting off hold. Plus since they've already reviewed you once it means they will review you again. The more times you are reviewed the more likely it is someone will see something they like and interview you.

My primary was complete mid-July, my UCSD secondary complete around end of August.

thanks. i was complete around then, too. i justed want mentally prepare for the worst. last year, i logged in and there it was...the dreadful UCSD hold. 😱 So far, I already got the UCI boot. I could use some CA love right now.😍

Looks like the people above got the hold after being complete late August. You're complete > a week later so i'd wait a while and see.

argh i just got the hold message...my cali dreams have now effectively been shattered. do other ppl consider this an early rejection?

Def. not. It looks like a sizable number do get off the hold at UCSD and receive interviews. Stay positive. That's what I'm doing (in addition to sending an letter of interest/update letter to UCSD). Good luck.

thanks, bigred. that makes me feel a lot better. just out of curiosity, for u and other ppl, when do u guys plan to mail in the interest letter with updates...like ASAP or after the fall semester or randomly? thanks!

More or less randomly haha There's a 3-week gap between interviews for me in October so I'll be writing a couple of update letters then (to UCSD and UChicago).
