these 2 schools are the great and they are both in the best city in the country. i have had the most difficult time of my life deciding between the two. i know where i'm going and why, but i would love to hear why others made the choice they did.

remeber we'll all be one big family in sf!!!!

SF is the 2nd best city in the US...NYC is the place to be.

YOu'll get out of UCSF owe 150K less than getting out from UOP. Also, remember the dean told you that the average of dentist makes 170K/yr. That's the average, and what if you fall on the low end of the range making about 90 or 100K? You are newly graduate and there is no guarantee that you'll get good job, with good paid etc.....

My classmate told me that her cousin getting out of UOP owing 250K, he bought an office in Marin County for 850K (5chairs and has 1 hygienist, 1 assistant)
He's 1mil in debt, has no family so he's being able to get by. With that 850K office, his gross income is only 250K.

I would faint if I wake up in the morning remember that I'm 1 million in debt.

Remember that loans can be paid off with hard work. It's up to each individual person and their work ethic on how fast they do this. I believe that when it comes to choosing schools, "you get what you pay for." As far as the topic of this thread...yes, you are right, you won't go wrong with choosing either of these two schools. They are great!!

Both schools have its pros and cons. But overall both are great schools. UCSF is alot cheaper and you'll be much more in debt coming out of UOP but remember you'll be getting out a year earlier at UOP. And so you'll be making some $$$ a year earlier as well. And since UOP prepares you so well clinically, its not hard for you to find jobs right after. This is just something I heard from current and former students.

A choice between 2 schools in the most beautiful city in the US.

UCSF you pay 150k less, but you enter the job market a year later than UOP(which traditionally is a three year program). To me, it seems that makes up the difference. Hard choice. Good luck.

Just getting out a year early is exciting enough. However, UCSF isn't bad either with Tinker bell as your best friend.

You are in a win/win situation. You can't lose.

UOP....

You'll learn more in the first 2-3 years of practice than 4 years of dental school. So getting out a year early will be nothing but a help...

cwiswa, UCSF is not free. But UOP tuition fee goes by school year or quarter. So, for three years, which is 36 months. Break them down into 9months period. That are 4 school years.

This is what I got from what they gave me on my interview day:

TUITION AND FEE, BOOKS, SUPPLIES:

First year: 55,185
Second: 46,969
Third: 46,076
Fourth: 46,220

Living expenses: UOP allows 12,715/yr for single student. So, adding 12,715 of living expenses to the tuition fee, it comes up to 245,330K after four years.

All I can say is yikes!!! 🙂 But it'll be worth it in the long run.
