so i was just wondering what people who have recently interviewed at ucsf thought about it. do they grill you at all? are the staff and students friendly? is it laid-back at all? is the written essay difficult?

i have an interview there soon and im nervous! 😳

I second his message. I am interviewing there next week and would love to hear how the interviews went for those who have gone already this cycle.

I have tried to post interview feedback, but have received errors when trying to do so, but I have replied to several PMs-

The interview is pretty laid back, you get a 2applicant:1student interview and a 1:1faculty interview, both of which happen at the end of the day.
They are closed file, and are just conversations about dentistry/volunteer experience and your background information stuff.

You spend a lot of time sitting in a room with everyone else for the financial aid, welcome, and Q&A sessions. There is also a writing sample which most people found to be quite difficult (however, the admissions rep said it would be graded only to determine competency of the english language - Grammar and complete sentences etc.) It is a one page response to a given quote (which varies by day).

Everyone is friendly there, and the whole experience went well. It was my first REAL 😛 interview and it wasn't stressful at all. I actually enjoyed my faculty interview more than anything else the rest of the day- we connected well and talked about experiences in dentistry.

Could you explain more about essays?
How much time did you guys have?

Our topic was to comment on the quote: "To be or not to be"

jk it was something thought along those lines.

What do you mean by "closed file"? Did the interviewers read your personal statement or any other parts of your application?

They know NOTHING about you beforehand
