Does anyone have a recommendation as to where to stay for an interview at UCSF? Preferably somewhere cheap and near campus. Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

They emailed me a list of places to lodge but they seem a bit expensive. I thought maybe students familiar with the San Fran area may have better suggestions. Thanks!

i'm not from the area so iono... but why don't u try looking on hotels.com or orbitz or expedia for hotels and then use yahoo maps to figure out how far the hotels are from ucsf. hopefully that helps.

ya i tried that, but the rates were extremely high. i guess i'm beginning to understand how expensive the city of San Francisco really is. thanks though

How about a place on campus? Is that close enough? I can help no more than one person per day. Courtesy of the class of 2012. 🙂

Hi, I grew up near UCSF and I have to say that there are NO hotels in this area. Luckily public transportation is definitely accessible (take the underground and the N train will take you right to the foot of UCSF).

Anyway, I'd suggest staying at a hotel near the MUNI underground route and bussing it ... unless you have a lot of money for a cab, then you can stay anywhere (even in neighboring cities like south san francisco where hotels will be a lot cheaper).

If you're parking at the lot on campus, it's really expensive... something like $25 or $28 for an entire day.

It's a really busy neighborhood and there's only 2 hour parking around, so driving is probably not the best idea.

Hope this helps. 🙂

I would suggest a place in Union Square SPAULDING HOTEL, they aren't 5 star but their rates are around $85 per night and if you want to share a bathroom it's cheaper. My wife and I stay there when we come to SF, it's close to everything and the rooms are clean and the place is maintained even though the property is older.

Phone: 415-397-4924 or spauldinghotel.com

The hotel is at O'Farrell & Powell and your two blocks from the Powell Street Muni Station. It's $1.50 for the Muni, take the "N" train and they stop right in front of the campus. If you are flying in you can take the BART to Powell Street and walk to the hotel.

Any other questions you can PM me. Someone else may have other suggestions but if price is a factor this is about as cheap as you can go without a hostel in SF.

thank you so so much for all of your responses. all of your input has been extremely helpful.

I also found this website which allows you to input any two addresses and shows you the easiest ways to travel using all of the public transportation that's available in the Bay Area:

i reserved a room at Carl hotel for $78(including tax). it's one of the hotels listed by ucsf...8-10 min. walk to the campus. not sure if i'm getting a good deal tho since i don't know what the condition of the place is...but it's cheap.

oh and if anyone stayed at Carl hotel before, please let me know how the place is. Thanks.
