Hi all,

A friend of mine is applying to UCSF MD-PhD this year. He interviewed in October, but hasn't heard anything since. So apparently the MD-PhD decisions don't come out until March, but MD decisions should be out by now. He is really worried about his application and UCSF is his top choice. For those who interviewed there, does anyone have any information or updates (accepted/rejected by MD part) on their applications?

Thanks for the help! 🙂

I've been waitlisted for the MD (which pretty much means I can't get into the MD/PhD 🙁 ). They send out decisions for the MD program on the 15th of every month. Maybe your friend will hear from them in mid-March. I interviewed in September and got the letter this month.

The MD has to accept you before the MSTP can say yes.

As far as I know this is not true. Actually, I have heard from the administrators of our program that a good number (if not the majority) of the accepted students will be put on the waitlist for the MD program since most of us don't have enough clinical experience to make us a slam dunk acceptance. In most cases, if the MD program puts you on the waitlist, the MSTP office can work with the MD committee on getting you in if they want you. The only way not to even get considered for the MD/PhD is to get a flat out rejection from the MD program.
Good luck
