I just received word from Yale that I was admitted from their waiting list. Before this I was very committed to UCSF but now I find myself a bit lost. I would appreciate any feedback or pros and cons anyone may have about the two schools. Thanks!

No advice from me. But where were you on the waitlist? Any idea?

Personally I would stick with UCSF because i like SF better

Are you instate at UCSF? How's the financial aid packet looking for Yale?

To the OP. I have two MDs (one from each school), and I have also served on the teaching faculty at Yale and as the dean at UCSF. Hence, I am in a perfect decision to comparatively discuss the strengths and weaknesses of these schools with respects to the lifestyle and quality of education.

Just kidding loser...you have to decide for yourself based on limited information. Suck it up.

Easy kid, you'll poke yer eye out trying that funny stuff...

Get to know Yale grads. Get to know UCSF grads. For me, that'd sell UCSF hands down.

Also, ever been to New Haven?

Tough call... but then again it's not really...

yale rejected me post-interview, while i'm on the UCSF waitlist. Hence, it is obvious to me that UCSF is better than yale, so i say f*** yale

I was on the tier 1 waitlist. I got an e-mail and then a call from Silverman on May 30.

It's a question of quality of academics vs. quality of life. The fact is that Yale med students are happier but UCSF is a more rigorous, more difficult program so you will learn more total knowledge there. Yale claims to teach more of the important stuff, but that is really up for debate. People in this thread seem to be very pro-UCSF, but picking Yale makes sense for many people, particularly if money is not a big factor. Also as a general rule private schools cost more but they treat you much better. Good luck! You can't lose either way.

We're pretty happy at UCSF, too!

Yale may be more laid back though New Haven is no booming metropolis.

So if you're more type B you may like Yale better.

Otherwise, pick UCSF for every other reason.

Uhh have you ever seen Mythbusters? UCSF.
