Can anyone tell me what it means when you get a msg on your answering machine from a Dr. at UCSF stating the call is concerning your application and asking you to phone back soon?

I would like to think they are calling to tell me I have been accepted but I don't want to get my hopes up and then have it be for some other reason. I just got home and it's too late to call now, I'll have to wait until tomorrow.

Is this how UCSF accepts people?

Anyone? Help!

If I had to bet, I'd say your accepted. I highly doubt a school would call to reject you. Worst case senario is that you are on the waitlist. But no rejection.....at least thats what I think.

Yeah, I'm thinking it's for the best but I haven't been able to get hold of the individual who called me this morning so I'm still biting my nails waiting for a return call.
Any people out there that were accepted to UCSF, is this how you were notified? I can't think of anything else they would call about but I won't believe it until I hear it for myself or have something in writing in front of me.

This not knowing is killing me!
 
I agree, the school wouldn't call just to reject you. Did you interview there yet? They probably won't start flat out rejecting people until March. Just hang in there...
 
Yeah, I interviewed there 1/12. Seems kinda like a quick turnaround time for an acceptance from what I've heard. That's precisely what has me concerned.
Am I missing a class or is something incomplete? You can imagine what's going through my head right now.

For your UCSF interview, do they mail you agenda?
I will have my interview next week, but I havent received anything from them yet.

I believe they sent me a packet with a map, directions and daily agenda prior to my interview date.

You might want to call the school about that packet. I got mine a little over a month before my interview.
 
Ya, I did. They put me on hold.
And they schedule my interview within a month.
Hopefully, they will let me know soon =)
 
Ok, just an FYI.... apparently that's how they let you know you're in. I just learned I have an acceptance at UCSF!!!

I got a phone message from UCSF as well, but I have been playing phone tag with the people over there all day, so I guess I won't hear until tomorrow. I interviewed over two months ago, so I would be shocked if they are just getting back to me now about their decision.

As you can imagine I am very EXCITED! UCSF is my first choice and can't wait to get started (it's been a long time coming!) I wish everyone on SDN the best, and together I look forward to pushing the art and science of dentistry to even greater heights during our years of practice.

FYI, one more spot open for interview at USC, I just cancelled my scheduled interview for 1/30 this morning.

Congratulations on your interview!!!

I wish I had some good advice to give you but it's nothing you haven't heard already on SDN. Both the student interview and the faculity interviewers were nice. My faculity interviewer was a bit curt and to-the-point. In other words I didn't get warm fuzzies when meeting with him. However, towards the end of the session I started to feel a little better once I got the focus of me for a minute and asked him to tell me a little about himself. On a scale for stess, I would say about a 4-5/10. I was very nervous at my interview. I hadn't heard from any other schools at that time and UCSF was/is my first choice. I didn't want to screw up and so the stress was mostly self inflicted. Both interviews went well, I mean, as well as they could go I suppose. The questions were focused and directed and I just answered them honestly.
There is one thing that I would recommend doing and that is going through lists of questions with someone a few weeks in advance. My girlfriend helped me to widdle down my responses to their essence and outline the important things about myself and my experiences so that I could put those out on the table when asked specific questions. Making an outline for each question, or at least narrowing down a response a head of time really helped me stay on track and put my best foot forward on certain questions. Preparing like this helped with the standard questions like: "Why do you think you'll be an assest to UCSF?", "Tell me a little about yourself." and "Why do you want to be a dentist?".
Make sure you now where to go ahead of time and don't be late (like someone on my interview day. Ouch!) I stayed accross the street so I could just walk over in the morning instead of trying to get a taxi or bus from a hotel further away.
Everyone is really nice there and the clinics are beautiful.

That's very thorough. You know what I have the exactly feeling in UCLA. I guess that's why I am chosen. (just got acceptance from mail) What a coincidence. It is my first acceptance. You know how I felt. Now I need to do a decent job at SF interview. I really love their research structure. So many opportunities.

BTW, I am applying for dds/ms program at UCLA.

Yeah, I got in, but I told them over the phone that I had already accepted somewhere else. Anyway, congratulations akasthisia!
 
It was a really tough choice, but I decided to go to Harvard.
 
Anyone that has been recently accepted to UCSF (Jan 15th and later), can you reply with when you interviewed?

Curious on how deep into their list of interviewees they've gone.
