Hi guys,

So I sent my secondary application to UCSF via USPS with delivery confirmation more than a week ago, but it was never confirmed as delivered. All it says is that it processed through sort facility, San Francisco. And I contacted the school, they said they haven't received my application yet. So I sent another one with delivery confirmation via USPS on Wednesday. But the SAME THING happened to me. It was never confirmed as delivered.

Did anyone send his/her secondary application with delivery confirmation? If so, did this happen to you too?

no i didn use the delivery confirmation cuz I thought they wouldnt like that. So i just sent mine through first class as the instruction said. but i included the check with my secondary packet and just found out that they cashed the check so i had my delivery confirmation that way.

Wait, I thought they asked us to send the check to an address and the secondary application to the other address??

the thing is, ucsf doesnt have a mail box specifically for applicants. all the mail go through a central sorting facility and then get distributed throughout campus. i wouldn't be surprised if it's not confirmed.

yes it's a different address. i think the bruinpride87 probably thinks that they are mailed out at the same time, so if the check is cashed, most likely it means the 2ndary arrived as well

yea you guys are right.. my bad! i got confused with something else. Yea i sent in my application and payment separately... hopefully they received my app too.

The instructions specifically said do not send it with delivery confirmation or use FedEx or UPS. Just send it as regular mail through the post office.

Like the above person said, it is a big campus and it gets sorted. There is no one to sign that the letter was delivered, so it probably got sent back to the post office and is sitting there.

Delivery confirmation is different from expressed mail. They don't need to sign anything. The mailman would just scan your mail when he delivers it to the recipient.

I thought only priority mail can use delivery confirmation...

Yeah.. Do you think that is the reason why it is never delivered? But on the website, they just tell you not to use express mail.

I think it might work if you send it with bubble wrap and styrofoam filler. Keep trying!

And FIRST class mail only...

For the secondary packet... Was it just the four sheets of paper - Form A, Form B and 2 Form C's - that you mailed out? That is it, right?

Thanks!

i did 1st class certified. it just has confirmation #. Am I screwed? 🙄

This might be stupid, but isn't First Class Mail just the 44-cent stamp? They're just telling you to not send it with anything special, not a signature requirement, because they don't have time for that sorta stuff.

That's what I sent out - and then the other form goes w/ your payment, and the first two pages were instructions? I know the pdf had 7 total pages.

You guys could send another copy of the secondary if you're worried it got lost - there's a slim chance the Post Office would lose the same letter twice, and the 21 day deadline from 7/28 isn't until a few more days...

I did the same thing. Certified mail is still first class mail. So we are fine...🙂

so can i send through priority mail or first class?

Yeah same exact thing happened to me with the UCLA app, I sent it out a while back and the certified mail thing didn't update so I got scared and sent it out again and same thing seems to be happening. Not sure whats going on. Thats why I decided to just send the UCSF one normally with no certified and just let it get there on its own, if it gets through then fate wants it to get there lol. But yeah hopefully UCLA doesn't go "why did this dude send us two applications???"...

for those who don't use USPS a lot.

online delivery confirmation/tracking via the post office is NOTHING like fedex/ups or any other delivery courier.

I've have bought and sold so many things on ebay, tracking/confirmation via the post office is a joke. I don't even bother paying extra for it. I offer it for buyers but tell them straight up its not that great.

the post office typically makes only 1-2 scans.

If you do it online it will almost never update until it gets delivered and will probably show up online a day or two later if your mail man remembers to scan it. 99% of the time it'll say they(usps) are expecting a package.

if you went the post office, you'll at least see the scan saying it was received.

as for OP, realize most schools/large business get the mail in huge bulks. You wasted 20 cents extra for nothing.

only packages and express mail will be handled by someone in the mail room to physically sign. Since well you can get a refund for it if it doesn't get there as promised assuming you paid for a time guarantee. Your app is probably sitting in some bin and UCSF and is sorted and distributed and they are going through. Although from what I read you sent two different letters so they likely adds to the delay.

Hi guys,

Before I was going to send my secondary app for the third time, UCSF e-mailed me back saying they got my application.
So... I guess priority mail works too?

Thank you everyone for answering. You guys are awesome.

well shooot i didn get one of those haha and i sent mine in like 2 weeks ago.. do u think u got an email notice just because you sent ur app in twice?
