haha for five seconds i thought I got a UCSF secondary...then I read the email.

Thank you for applying to the University of California San Francisco School of Medicine. Your file is ready for review to determine if you will be selected to submit a secondary application. If you are selected to receive a secondary application, you will be sent an email and instructed to go to our applicant status website at http://medschool.ucsf.edu/admissions/ where you will find the link to our Secondary Application. This action should occur within approximately three to ten weeks after receipt of your verified AMCAS data.

Except for a change of address, please do not send any additional information or letters of recommendation at this time. Any additional information will not be added to your file.

Please do not reply to this email address. If you have any questions or need additional information please visit our website at http://medschool.ucsf.edu/admissions/. Any replies to this email address will not be read

Yeah, my heart skipped a beat when I saw UCSF in the From column.

me 3. it was quite weird. i feel honored to even get an email from them!

Seeing as UC Irvine and UCSD pulled the same stunt, my guess is that UCLA will do likewise.

same here...i was thinking...UCSF?!?!?

but yeah..

On a brighter note, I got one from UCSD today! 😀 but still no word from UCI 🙁

me too...i saw ucsf and thought, yes!!! then was crushed with the sorry you're just going to have to wait 3 to 10 weeks to hear from us.... 🙁

yeah, I think UCLA did the same thing last year as well...

In general, UCLA and UCSF simply tend to be relatively very slow in sending out their secondaries because they screen first.

Be very careful with UCLA. Check your status page often. You are supposed to know that you got a secondary from them by checking your status page. My friend went on vacation and when she came back, she checked her status page for fun to find out that she had been invited to fill one out a month prior! :scared:

UCSF just seems so nice. Even their email about changing my address was nice! Too bad I have a better chance of winning the lotto than getting accepted there🙁

At least the UCs screen before sending out secondaries.

In general, UCSF tends to send out 1400 secondaries. If you care or are interested, for the 2007 class, 4045 applied and 553 interviewed and for the 2008 class, 5222 applied and 535 interviewed. It's nice to know that when you get a secondary and then interview that you've got a decent shot at getting in; gives you a nice boost of confidence walking into your interview!

I agree, I wish more schools screened

What I don't understand is why they even sent out the email at all.

"Your file is ready for review to determine if you will be selected to submit a secondary application."

Are they going to send me an email after they come back from Walmart with a pack of pens? "We're now ready to write things about your application onto paper. Stay tuned."

Got that same email last year. It was the last thing I heard from them until several months later when they told me they wouldn't be offering me an invitation to fill out thier secondary. 🙂
I found it a refreshing change from GWU's premed money farm strategy.

When were all of your AMCAS apps processed? Are all of you in the pre-July group?

Or maybe for mine, "We all have to pass your application around for a good laugh...why did you think you'd have a shot at our school, you imbecile? But thanks for the much needed laugh!"

I think he's referring to the status page UCLA has on their admissions website. It may not be up yet for this application season.
