Are there any previous UMP participants that can tell me about their experiences with this program? What do you feel were the pros and cons? Was the DAT prep given by Kaplan and was that sufficient preparation for the DAT?

I recently got accepted to this summer program and am looking forward to what it has to offer. I haven't yet received the information packet but am eager to know about the program at the moment.

Is this program intense? That is, would I still be able to work during the weekends while I'm participating in it?

Thanks for your responses.😛

it is definetly worth it...i made some great friends and the DAT prep course is sufficient if you make it work for you. the research you do also adds to your AADSAS application...nothing but good things...only cons is that the sf summer is gloomy but picks up around august...but considering you're from sf you know that already.

Thanks a lot for responding hemp!

It's the best predental program out there.
On first day, you'll receive: a folder, a pencil pouch, a sweater with UCSF on it.
Then, you get the DAT class with KAPLAN, can also get some tutors too
You will have one student mentor, and one faculty mentor to help you with anything you need to know/do to get into dental school
You will get a free wax up class.
You will get stipend, stay in the dorm of USF with free food
You will have to do a research presentation, with a faculty mentor. You get to pick the project.
There will also be lots of activities like touring the capital of California, visiting dental offices, etc...lunch & learn.
Last day, you will do a poster presentation of your research, it's pretty easy thing. And you'll get a diploma stated that you successfully completed your summer program at UCSF, take a group picture with your fellow UMP.

This program is well organized and you'll have nonstop fun. Every year, more than 10 former UMP students get accepted to every class. They are all friends, and loads of fun. I really think highly of the program. Thank your lucky star that you got in. As it's not easy to get. The school spends a lot of money on each student, and free stuff like that is hard to comeby anywhere
