Hi,

I just got an acceptance today from UCSF though I already had my heart set on Temple (I sent my deposit in Dec.). I really liked UCSF when I interviewed but figured I wouldn't be accepted since I am out of state. Anyway, I am interested in getting a lot of clinical exposure and am leaning toward general dentistry. I currently live in NYC so the move across the country is also an issue. On the other hand I love the city of SF and only feel neutral regarding Philly. Any thoughts regarding the school to choose?

Thanks!

UCSF is an AWESOME school. I have only heard good things about it. I would way rather live in SF than in Philly... and I know Temple is in a pretty rough area :/ But I'm sure you would get a great education at eathir places. Good luck!

If you are leaning towards clinical exposure, it's hard to beat Temple in that department. Because of the nature of the area, you are going to have a high number of patients to work with and more interesting cases if the grad dep doesn't suck em up. I think the Cali schools are having a rougher time because the state is in a massive budget crunch - both in terms clinic guidance you get (downsizing clinical faculty) as well as the number of patients you get because the state insurance was cancelled (didn't DentiCal get cancelled?).

With that in mind, I don't think you'd be in danger of not fulfilling your requirements (which are modified annually anyway), but clinical exposure will indefinitely be better at Temple. In terms of a didactic education and research though, UCSF would probably win that hands down. It's really a toss up between what you want more of :better didactic education/research or better clinical education.

Yes, Dentical did get cancel. So I am just wondering how things are gonna play out in the clinic now.

Thanks for all the advice everyone! I am still torn....I guess I have a few weeks to decided.
