UCSF vs Tufts

It depends on what you mean by "don't worry about cost".

Is your education being funded by HPSP or some other external source? If so, I say Tufts. I like the east coast better than the west coast. Tufts also just recently finished renovations which look amazing and students are pleased with them. The clinical experience at Tufts is also great. I don't care for the whole "reputation" thing. Dental schools aren't like law schools, where the school name matters. That argument doesn't hold water with dentistry in my book.

If you're saying "don't worry about cost" because you don't want that to be a factor in your decision, I'd ask you to seriously rethink how you're deciding where to go to school. The price of Tufts is inconceivable. If you're financing dental school yourself, you really are doing yourself a massive injustice to not consider the cost of your diploma.

Congrats, both are awesome schools, are you instate for UCSF?

u can be in state after 1 year at UCSF. its cheaper than Tufts.

UCSF is research powerhouse but clinical.... i have no idea. when I was there, i didnt get to see the clinic with patients...

I say UCSF. If finding friends is a concern of yours, it will be no easier in Boston than SF. Really, it's impossible to predict whether or not you'll find people to like at either place so I don't think it should factor in. UCSF wins by $70,000 in that case.

You're in state for UCSF?

Your decision has been made. 🙂

Regarding the friends thing. Even if its "clicky", its important to realize that this is professional school and that you're there to learn dentistry. Dentists need to be personable people, and as such you will make friends no matter where you go. Every dental school will give you what you need to start your career, and that's your degree.

Go to UCSF.

Keep in mind the difference is most likely more than 70,000. Did you factor in a 5% increase per year in tuition and fees? Interest accrual on loans? The true difference is probably 100,000ish.

EVERY SCHOOL HAS groups or cliqs... if someone tells u there are no cliqs and you believe that..then you are naive....

UCSF. It's cheaper. San Fran not a bad city. There are cliques everywhere

My friend goes to Tufts and she says it's clicky. It's a also crazy expensive. She lives with 4 other people in a 2 bedroom apartment just to be able to pay rent. She loves the school though and all the friends that she met there.

UCSF, hands down. Considerably more affordable. P/F. ISO. A lot of internationally renowned research programs/researchers. Some schools strive to be a leader in dental research while others lack research entirely. UCSF is a school that definitely deserves a title as a leader in dental research. There is no "best" dental school but there are some that better justifies its existence to the state/public more than others. It is very easy to improve clinical instructional hours but the same cannot be said of research capacity.

Every school has cliques (high school all over again). UCSF touts a diverse student body but what's the point of an eclectic composition if the constituents ultimately form cliques?
