I have been searching for the past 2 weeks but couldnt come up to a good decision . please help me out i got accepted to udm 3 more interviews Minnesota and nova and ucsf ,,,should i turn the interviews down?which one would you prefer in case of got offer? i am not much of a fan of the idea not going to a better school for the sake of tuition. please help me out with this one thanks

UDM is
- More expensive
- Detroit is not a great place
- It's more clinical than research oriented.

UCSF
- Is cheaper (if in state)
- Offers in state tuition after 1 year so it'll probably still be cheaper
- Research Research Research
- Specialization rates are higher
- SF is a great city

That said, if I were you I'd put down my deposit for UDM since you already have the acceptance in hand. Interviews are very nice and I really do hope you get in everywhere but we all know that isn't how these things play out.

If you're absolutely sure you'll get into UCSF or if that situation ever comes your way, I'd take UCSF over UDM. If you want more info about UCSF PM me.

Disclaimer/About me - Interviewed at UCSF, declined interview at UDM after UCLA acceptance. Basically I have no horses in this race and am not biased to either of the two schools you mentioned.

every city has their areas where you shouldn't be walking around at night. Many Sdners say they live outside of detroit and commute (they love their area). I'm sure some areas in SF are ghetto as well.

You should go to your interviews...I'd choose UCSF over UDM. Well established school, better city, also relaxed environment (2 half days, 3 months summer break after D1 and D2 year. P/F etc.). I thought Minnesota was pretty good too. If I was in your situation, I'd possibly let go of the Nova interview.

thank you guys for your advice really

about tuition for out of state u guys know how much would it be for detroit and ucsf?

This advice is not coming from a predent like the other posts.

I would bet on UDM everyday of the week to produce the better clinician.
You do not need research to specialize.
SF has sunshine. Troy which is a suburb of Detroit has consistently ranked top 10 safest places to live in the United States, you dont have to live in Detroit.
You should not have the pleasure of enjoying any city, if you do the dental school is clearly not working you like a dental school should.
Be cheap.
