Hey guys, so.. I wanted to get your thoughts on this matter. I interviewed at UCSF in Feb, and I'm just freaking out about my chances of getting in. I'm a minority, I go to UC Irvine, I have am highly involved in Dental Research, have a lot of volunteer experience, and have my x-ray license..

my stats are
GPA: 3.4

DAT:
18AA/19TS/17PAT but an RC = 15 🙁

what do you guys think? I looked at pre-dents.com and sdn I am getting to see that my gpa is competitive but that my DAT is way lower than those who have been accepted on these websites.

Do you guys think I have a chance?

And also, does anyone know when they are going to call us? All i got was to wait until the end of the month for a decision...

thanks!

i have similar stats like you. 3.3, years of experience, father and brother who are dentists (if that helps), and 18/19/22. from what i understand they rank you with say a score out of 100. each stat counting for a certain number (gpa, dat, interview, letters of rec, etc.). then they start with the highest number and accept the person going down the list. i think that if you or i do get accepted it will be later on after (hopefully) all the people that get accepted choose to go to ucla and harvard instead. so i will cross my fingers for us statistically challenged people that still got interviews and hope that we get in. hope this helps. good luck

if you have interviewed, then there's a good chance. they have selected you for an interview, something from your profile must have caught their attention. it's not always about numbers.

from what i hear, there's a handful of spots open and the adcom is meeting soon to make the final decision. after that, people will be placed on the waiting list. more spots will open up if people don't secure their deposits. just keep your hopes up.

I think the fact that you had an interview gives you the chance to be accepted. But looking at your stats, and esp. your interview date being late in Feb, I would say that it's not likely that you'll be admitted.

However, it really depends on your interview. If you feel like you nailed it then I think you might be waitlisted and/or accepted. Gluck

I agree (on both). I was told that there were about two dozens of spots. Everyone should get a response by the end of this coming week or early of the following week. Good Luck everyone.

Since UCSF uses a point-system to evaluate all the applications, time may not be as critical as the other dental schools; I also interviewed in Feb and I got accepted. UCSF has a great interest in training healthcare professionals with minorities backgrounds. Good luck jokerjoe12.

Shinji did u interview on the 22nd or before? thanks for all your feedback!

im a minority but am not considered one...my family is from poland...darn...european american is not a minority

I'm sure they'll let you in. Just wait, the fact that you got an interview is a really good sign and I'm sure you worked your charm. 😉 . After all, you know they can't get enough hot Egyptians there.

WE REALLY NEED TO BOOK ROOMS FOR ASLMS!!! 🙁 🙁 🙁

It is at UCSF

I think you still have a shot.

How was your interview? If you feel you nailed it then it's a very real possibility you could get in.

Most likely, because of your DAT being kinda low, you will need some people to decline their spots in order to get in.

Good luck, hope to see you there 🙂
