I just got an information package from University of Detroit Mercy suggesting that I retake the DAT because I have scores below 18 in 2 sections. Does anyone know how much of an impact this is going to have on my application? I know I can't retake the DAT again this year. What do you guys think?

Thanks,
Chewy7

If the school is telling you to re-take the dat, then it probably will severely hurt your chances to get in if you dont. Take the american dat if you have to. If they went out of their way to tell you to retake the dat, then they are interested in you, but you have to jump through one more hoop to prove yourself.

Good luck

You should contact Karin La-Rose Neil. She'll be able to tell you what scores she would like to see.

Just to let you know, you do still have a chance this year. I know of people in my class who were asked to retake the DAT. Once they did and did better on it they were accepted. I think one or two of them retook the DAT in February or March.

Thanks for your replies. Since the mean dat scores were 19 and 18, this means people scored below and ablove, obviously. I'm just hoping they'll look at my improvements in GPA over the years. If they don't count my 1st year university grade in calculating my overall GPA, it's around 3.7-3.8. I guess the DAT means a lot to the schools in the states. Here in Canada, people who get below 10's in some sections still get in if they have around 85%+ average.

they asked me to tell them what i was gonna do. they recommended me to retake the DAT as well, but i told them i wasn't going to.

i sent the reply right before the xmas holidays so we'll see what they say pretty soon. i am sure it'll be a rejection, but i UDM was the only school to ask me that.
