Just wanted to get a thread for people entering UERM this June.

Happy to say I received my acceptance letter.

Congratulations to the rest of you too that got accepted.

By the way, are they really strict about the February 15th deadline to enroll?

you've been given the acceptance letter? damn early, i can say!

are you fil-am?

i heard that UERM will release their successful applicants this march. i just had my interview yesterday.

btw, congratulations on being accepeted. are you really into UERM?

Yep I received it via e-mail in adobe format.

yeah i'm also a fil-am. maybe fil-ams get it earlier to process student visa's?

There are also less fil-am applicants.

And yep I'm in uerm, first choice school for me.

Second choice is St. Lukes.

I received my acceptance letter yesterday as well. UERM processes foreigner applicants separately from local ones. In fact, I haven't even done my phone interview yet, lol. Here's the thing though, the letter states that I have to secure my spot by February 15th.

I'm still waiting on word from UST and it is unlikely that they'll release the list of accepted students by the 15th. What should I do? Help!

Hawkeye, isn't it funny how they put a Feb 15th deadline even though schools like st.lukes/ust doesn't release their acceptance till late feb ? haha

Oh and i'm still waiting for a response from the doctor for a phone interview. Looks like it will be monday. Doesn't seem like there is any rush though.

Ha! I had similar experience, only I didn't get hte email and I had to call them about it to resend it. I've only applied to UERM anyways since it's within the Manila area. By the way guys, do I have to call one of those doctors for an interview? It seems like they just accepted me rather quickly. Maybe because I'm a Fil-Am that can pay the fees? Anyways, I was just wondering if anyone else knew what else we need to do right away after getting the acceptance letter such as applying for student Visas or where we get the eligibility to study medicine in the Philippines.

hello - i'm a filipino-american
I'm really interested in going applying to uermm (as well as other schools) -- i'm contemplating whether i should take the NMAT this april and gamble my chances for june2009 or wait until october to take it in LA (for next year's admissions)

The thing is - i'm going to be relying on this NMAT to get accepted. If I apply early, I feel like they'll deny me when they look at my transcript. (during college - a few years back, i changed my mind on going to med school because i started concentrating on other career goals. Now, years later and having done well on that career that i exchanged medicine to ---- i want to go back to medicine.

I know my materials, i did well on my early years of college.

my questions is --- does anyone know of any filipino-americans who didn't get accepted to a medical school in the phlippines (particularly uermm)? if so, what was the reason?

please reply. thanks!

For Fil-Ams, I don't think they are strict with grades and NMAT score, just contact their administration and see if they still can admit you this school-year.

guys, i passed an application form at UERM, but my NMAT score is only 50 .., i plan to retake the test on april.. but i was just thinking... totoo b na kapag below 55 ang percentile na nakuha sa nmat e, hindi na nila titignan ung application form?? are they really strict when it comes to the NMAT score ?? tska when did you guys have your interview? i mean, about a week or two ba , after passing the application form ?? waaa .. paranoid na ko, kasi UERM lang ang pinasahan ko ng application form !! 🙁

thanks for your reply tantrum.

question: has any one ever got accepted to uermmmc just by transcript? With a condition that they take the NMAT in April?

i'm thinking...if they accept me just by my transcript, then i'll fly to the philippines just to take the exam --- but if i rush into studying, spend $$ for the plane ticket, just to get rejected, i don't know if that's worth it. (not that i'm planning of getting a low score - but just in case)

also - what exactly does Problem Based Learning mean? - apparently this uermmmc's teaching strategy. is that still true?

one last thing - i hear they teach in english? really? so it's mandatory for teachers and students to speak english in class? (that would be great!)

it's better that you ask. i believe that they mainly choose applicants based on their transcript besides the NMAT score.

my advice for you is to call the registrar's offce.

**people say that UERM is like a big fil-am community**

As bodjie said, it's better to ask them directly. If you can get some assurance/clarification then it might be worth to take the NMAT in April. There are fewer med school applicants in the Phil., so they may be more lenient in admission.
They are no longer PBL, they still have module discussions but most med school in Phil are not PBL.
ALL schools in the Philippines teach in English but they occasionally slip in a few Tagalog words (esp. jokes). There are many Fil-Ams there so you will never have problems with translations.

😀 now there's a bit of relief for me ! thanks bodjie ! sana lng tlga mtnggap nila ako sa ue .... gusto ko talaga dun ...........

I received my acceptance letter at UERM last thursday, still waiting for UST but if i dont get accepted at UST, ill take UERM.
I have to call them UERM on or before 15 of feb and they want me to talk some filipino classes (oh well 😉)
Good luck to everyone!!!

Im a fil-am University of washington graduate 2007 major in Cellular, molecular and developmental Biology.
NMAT score of 88%
I guess i did well on my interview lol

How is UE with non-traditional med students. I graduated college back in '01
in Manila and got my pre-reqs here in the states. Hoping to go to UE for med this year. Done pretty well in the Nmat and my GPA. Is UE fairly open to that kind of situation? Haven't received a schedule for interview but submitted my application on jan 15.

Ei UWgrad2007, where did you have your interview , in manila or in the US?

I had my interview at UERM campus around second week of January. It was few days after I took my Psych test at UST. I got my acceptance letter 3 weeks after that. It was wicked fast!
Ive been in Manila since December, It was cool, noone was in seattle during that time. Most of them were out of town, my older brother was in europe. (lucky bastard!)
anyhow, I going back to seattle on monday.. It's about time!

Hey, nice to see someone from NW headed to UERM. I am making a last-minute dash to try and get into the '09 class.

Can you please-please help me with any contact names, cell, emails. I am going to go over in-person end of the month to do things live.

lost job, just discovered the Philipines med schools.
graduated biology and kinesiology from UNC.

thanks

hi portland, sorry you lost your job.

i believe the website for uerm is ---> uerm[dot]edu[dot]ph
also, here's another forum that is super helpful aswell
http://www [dot] valuemd [dot] com/asian-medical-schools/

Hi John,
Sorry to hear of your latest news, economy is horrible and you aren't alone.

Even though the deadlines for all schools are closed, you still have a chance to apply accept for UST/St. Lukes/UP. Not 100% sure, but just from what I have seen.

UERM:Website
http://www.education.uerm.ph/index.php?fid=medicine-info01

[FONT=Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif]715-08-61 to 70

is the #, but of course dial the out of country codes / city manila code.

.then say can you connect me to the College of medicine admissions office.

Ask for Imelda Reyes.

Ask your questions from there.

As for authentication,
Notarize (try to do it by packet rather than individual document)
Apostille at state Secretary or go to local Countery Clerk office. (i recommend countery clerk)

Then mail or go to a philippine consulate and submit it for authentication.

[FONT=Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif]But if you are going to be there in person live, then ask imelda what documents to bring that way there is a possibility you don't have to authenticate..

[FONT=Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif]Good Luck

.

I'm going to UERM this June for the school year of 2009-2010!! 🙂

Hey guys, I got a NOA and the people at the registrar's office told me I should contact Dr. Rigor for an interview, but I have been unable to get a hold of him. All the other people on the list either have disconnected numbers or said they don't do interviews for UERM anymore. Can anyone give me a contact number or something of someone that is known to be still giving interviews for UERM?

Just email Dr. Rigor. He is currently in Manila right now but will be back next week. I got a response from him last week and he will be in contact upon his return. Just be ready with your application form and transcript cause he will need this before the interview.

Thanks for the information. Could you send me his email address?

Thanks, greeneagle! Are you guys already in the Philippines? I heard FilAms tend to arrive in May.

Hi future batchmates!

I'm a FilAm, also attending UERM this June 🙂 Dorming at Robbinsdale.

If anyone wants to exchange info, my email is: [email protected].
I'm hoping to make some connections before I go back to the Phils in May (that way I know more than just my relatives there!)

Congratulations to everyone accepted and good luck to those interviewing soon.

See you in 3 months! :luck:

We are foreigners AKA Fil-am!

We also got our NOA earlier for obvious reasons 🙂

So, Lumpia? are you already in??? Goodluck!

Actually, I'm not Fil-am, im a native🙂. I just happen to currently work in the States. I'll be flying back home in April. I need to party and hit the beaches first before classes start😀. I do hope to meet you all soon.

I would just to to take the time to congratulate all of you who are going to UERM this June. I will be heading down there end of April, so if anyone wants to get in touch just message me here.

Congratulations Ham, i'm sure you will make it to UST also. As a Fil-Resident that will be practicing in the Phils, I would also pick UST over UERM.

wow congratz again!!! hahaha, i just called uerm this morning and they said i also passed! 😀, ust on the other hand, im waiting for them to post to their website the list of eligible applicants. uhm my reason will be, 1) better reputation in teaching medicine
2) more parking space LOL

Well if you are Filipino Citizen, and practicing in the Phils. Then CaptCoco is right, UST has a better reputation, nicer campus, more parking spaces.

If you are a Fil-Am, and practicing in the USA, then it's different. USA hospitals won't know the difference between UP/UST/UERM. As a Fil-Am, the extra months for 4th year clinicals in the states offered by UERM is more compared than the 3 months UST is offereing. The extra months will allow Fil-Ams the time to gather up extra GreenBook clinicals along with recommendation lettes which is a partial factor in getting into res.

Overall UST and UERM are two good schools, whichever one a Fil citizen or Fil-Am graduates at, it will be the same outcome. Just study hard 🙂

Got accepted to ASMPH & UE , but Im leaning towards UE . I just dont know how to confirm. They said I was preaccepted and my name will be included in the final list . Which was weird , but anyway still waiting on that too

can someone PLEASE take a photo of this pre-accepted students list outside the registrar's office?

that would be super helpful. i'm confused too.
