I am going to apply to UF in a couple of years, and have a question about their math reqs. Their admissions website says that 6 hours of math are required, calculus and stats. VMCAS says that UF wants 7 hours. I took a 3 hour calc class and will take a 3 hour stats class in the fall. I emailed UF admissions 2 weeks ago and haven't gotten a response yet, so could any Florida experts help me out?

I am not a UF expert, but I wouldn't worry and go with what the admissions website says but call them (not email) and double check. They are extremely nice there, I have spoken with them and will give you an answer right away.

It is probably 6 credits, 7 is an odd number for credits prereq unless they are referring to quarter hours instead of semester. Usually it is 3,4,6, 8 . . . .

I know that where I did my undergrad, Calculus was a 4cr class because it had a "lab". That would definitely account for the 7cr on UF's website...

But, like athane said, we are not experts about UF. Call them up and ask! Don't forget to write down when you called and who you spoke with so you have it for future reference if needed.

Best of luck!

The stat class I took in undergrad was also 4 credits b/c it had a lab so I would definitely call to clarify. It would stink to take the 3-credit stat class and then have to take a 4-credit stat class a year later to satisfy the pre-req. Also, I found stat lab to be very helpful in learning the material and it also was an easy way to boost your grade.

I'd def. call them to be 100% sure. BTW, I'm mainly commenting on your avatar. Absolute adorbale. I want to hug the screen 😀 I love bunnies.

The pre-vet track here at UF has us take a 4 credit calculus course plus a 3 credit statistics course (which includes a lab). I would imagine they would require 7 since this is what they have us take. You should try calling admissions (instead of emailing) to get the definite answer.

Don't email them, they are awful about getting back to you.
You can try calling them, they'll answer your questions very quickly, but if they are busy they may try to dismiss you, don't let them! Make sure they answer the question to a level you feel comfortable with and know what you have to do. They are nice if it's a good day, but if you catch them on a bad day you may just want to try again in a couple days.

But ya, call them to clarify.

i'm a freshman/sophomore at UF right now and for Calc, i used my AP score...so that was worth 4 credits. Then i took stats [w/lab] and it was 3 credits. so yeah....somehow it's 7 credits...which really IS a weird number...but oh well i guess.

I just went back and looked at it was my calc class that was 4 credits, not my stat class. Needless to say, it's been a while! Sorry!
