Does receiving a UF secondary for an out of state student usually correlate with an interview. I got my aadsas sent out august 1st and i finally heard back from them 2 weeks ago with a secondary where they had me fill out some forms write a 2nd essay and pay them for my application to be processed (they don't ask for u to pay them unless u get a secondary). The time it took to hear from them almost seemed like the time it takes to hear for an interview, does that mean they do a lot of weeding out before handing out secondaries and especially in my case for out-of-state. Just curious cuz this process is much different than all th eother schools i applied to.

i can't really shed too much light on your situation b/c i'm an in-state student and have already interviewed at UF. my suggestion: if you're really interested in UF then fill out the 2ndary and fork up the $30; however, UF selects a majority of their class on dec. 1st (i think) so if you interview afterwards i'm lead to believe your chances of acceptance aren't as high.

it looks like you've scored interviews at some sick schools. if you really like those schools and feel good about your chances i dunno if i'd throw money UF's way.

just my 2 cents,
jb!

I’m not sure that’s true... in my interview there were many out of state students. They accept about 10 out of state according to their stats, and not before Dec. 1st. I think you should try. It seems like a very good school with very nice students and faculty.
BTW did you apply also to Nova?? It’s also in FL and probably much easier to get in as out of state...

Good luck with your interviews!!

well I already did the secondary and i still really am interested in UF, i was just curious what the correlation is between getting a secondary and then getting a following interview. It appears as though their intent is to weed out a lot students they're not interested in by doing this secondary process. I was jsut curious if u get a secondary, does that generally lead to u atleast getting an interview (not necessarily accepted, but atleast an interview). I'm curious if they wait on their out of staters for as long as possible to see their in state pool, just a hinch, cuz they took a real long time to get back to me to give me a secondary.

i don't think anyone can really tell you. UF is a great school.....all you can do now is wait 🙂

good luck,
jb!

Well here's how Dr. Sposetti (ADCOM Director) from UF explained it:

In-state: If you make it past their initial criteria... they send you an interview invite and the secondary at the same time. Not everyone gets a secondary

Out-of-state: If you make it past their initial criteria (which is pretty damn hard)... then they send you a secondary. Therefore, this is good for you. Then they look over your application a second time and decide who they are going to interview.

Therefore, you will not automatically get an interview, but they are at least entertaining the idea of inviting you. Just fill out the secondary asap and send it in.

Do you know what their initial criteria is?

thank u for that advice dmonee6, that does make a lot of sense, i saw online that they do take very few out of staters and UF seems like a great school so its definately high on my list. I assumed the secondary wouldnt guarantee an interview but it sounds good nonetheless. I'm sick right now with a cold and all I can think about is how amazing living in florida weather year round sounds, lol, its quite tempting.

btw, has any other out of staters from florida gotten secondaries and when did ur aadsas get sent out and did u get an interview?

i got a secondary a few weeks after my aadsas got sent out and they contacted me for an interview about 10 days (more or less) after my secondary got there. i don't have a clue what they are looking for in out-of-staters (high stats sure, but what else?) and i'm not really sure how my interview went. of the schools i've interviewed at i feel the most confused about UF. great school, but the interview leaves you feeling weird. anyways, good luck.

I agree with you about feeling weird. I thought that maybe I was feeling like that because it was my first one, but after doing two others I realized, no, it was just Florida that I felt like that. But still, I love the program, I just wish I could say one way or the other how the interview was. 😎

i don't think my UF interview went well, but on the other hand, i'm naturally critical of myself. it seems like everyone, including current students, felt as if their chance of acceptance was a crapshoot....

good luck to everyone who interviewed....hopefully we'll all be gators next fall🙂

I agree the interview is very different at UF. The school is so great. I really wan to get in !!!!!!!!!

Ok first off... the weather in Gainesville isn't that great. I lived there for four years... winters are pretty damn cold (30's & 40's) and summer is really hot with no breeze. My threshold for temperature may be different from everyone else consdering i live in Palm Beach and haven't put on a sweatshirt down here in like 5 years, haha.

I know a few kids in my masters program that are from California that got a secondary from UF. They submitted their aadsas apps early... but have been waiting about a month or so to hear back from UF after the secondary.

Can someone elaborate more on why they felt their interviews were weird? What about it made u unsure of ur interview. Did they ask very hard questions and really challenge u on the spot, were the interviewers just awkward in general which made the experience uncomfortable, was it ur first interview and maybe that made it weird or was it some other reason? just kind of curious since so many responses said the same thing.

haha, i 2nd that. gainesville is NOT florida weather. i'm a palm beacher too....and i went to school in tallahassee which has very similar weather to gainesville. the winters can be cold (30's/40's) and the summers are hot and humid (no breeze).

if the "florida weather" is what appeals to you, apply to nova....

all of the above...honestly 🙂

for me it was odd b/c at my UF interview they would follow up all of my answers w/ more questions that i felt like i had just answered. at other schools they just want to talk to you and get to know you, but at UF it felt like they wanted more from you. if the answer i gave seemed too general then they would say, "what do you mean" or "give us an example" and they rarely showed any type of reaction so i had no clue if they were happy w/ my answers or not.

at one point an interviewer asked me if i knew someone that worked at a clinic i volunteer at. i had never heard of the person and said that i didn't think that person worked at the clinic and the interviewer insisted the person did work there and that i should know her. it felt really akward and i was a little upset afterwards. turns out the person has never worked at the clinic and no one at the clinic knows anyone by that name, but at my interview i think everyone thought i was lying about working at said clinic. anyways, that was my UF interview.

Hey everyone!
I just got a secondary from UF.
For those of you who are out of state and got an interview at UF~ how long did it take after submitting your secondary to get an interview?
😕

A cell phone went off during my interview -- and it wasn't mine. And i completely agree that they kept asking the same question over and over and over again and seemed annoyed, exasperated, bored with my answers. After mulling my experience over and over in my brain, though, I'm convinced that they really liked me but used the interview to pick at some of the things that are weak about my app -- I was just put off by the methods they used.

Love the school though! UF has a stellar program.

Gainesville isn't cold. it's not even 'chilly' at its coldest. Try upstate NY 🙂

hey mackchops i agree with you. the school is fantastic and the weather is no where near cold. it may not be south florida weather, but a short break from the heat is nice sometimes. also, looking back i realize that the interview was not a personal assault on me but it felt akward at the time and left me wondering about where i stood w/ UF. but since almost everyone has had similar experiences i don't feel like my interview was a strike against me. for those of you w/ interviews coming up, just act cool and don't let them smell fear.

I agree with everyone else about the interview. At first when I left the interview I was kinda bummed out because I felt it was rough. But then after thinking about it, I realized that even though there were some akward moments during the interview, overall I think it went pretty well. They asked me to elaborate as to how I studied for my DATs so that I could explain why some of my scores were a little low. I am glad that they asked that though so that they would not draw any conclusions, but rather have me tell them directly what I think happened. Overall we laughed, we cried (well not really😀 ) but it was my first interview so I also think that was a result of why I thought it was not very smooth.
For anyone who has an interview comming up, don't worry about it. At first Dean Sposetti is a little intimidating, but she is really nice 🙂 Good luck everyone! December 1st is only a month away!!!!
