No matter how hard I study, I only get B's close to an A like 89%. Now if I don't study, I still only get B's! This is so frustrating. I know have everything it takes to be a doctor, except the fact that I only get B's...

It sucks because I study so hard for tests, and for some reason I still do only "okay" on them. I feel like I only truly master the concepts once I've taken the test, because I studied so hard for it, and the mistakes I made on it give me that last piece of refinement to understand a concept fully.

Any words of inspiration or encouragement would be greatly appreciated!

Consider changing the way you study or better more taking a semester off from your harder science classes and to get out of the mind set that you're a B student.

Welcome to my world.

Evaluate your study habits before it's too late.

per OP's other thread, he has only taken 1 science course (the introductory course to freshman chem).

OP you have to figure out where you're going wrong and improve that aspect of your study regimen. Maybe you're focusing too much on details, maybe not enough. Maybe you don't study the right things (like what the professor focuses on). Things like that.

I have a theory that everyone has the capability of getting A's if they find and break the correct threshold in their studying of a subject. You CANNOT compare to the study habits of other students, whether they are getting 60's or 100's, different material comes easier to some students than others in certain classes. For example, my Anatomy and Physiology class was always considered brutal at my school. Out of my whole class, only myself and one other student received A's, I lost my soul studying in that class meanwhile the other student probably studied half the time I did, it just came to her easier, but we still Aced the class. You need to find the correct habit and time management for you, but you are capable

You can if you are going to compare yourself to the people who (regardless of need or want) study endlessly and get As.

Guaranteed way to get As? Overstudy everytime.

I can relate to this. I was the king of the 87-89% B's during undergrad. I managed a few A's in some classes but my GPA was fairly low (considering being Pre-Med) when all the dust settled. It was really frustrating.

I have since learned that the amount of time I was studying in undergrad was, for me, good enough for 87-89's. 🙄. Luckily I was accepted into school and realized on the first test (which I had studied relentlessly for) that for the first time I had "overstudied" for a test and aced the damn thing, and have been studying hard and making A's ever since.

Moral of the story is to increase that study time until you hit those A's! Its possible😀

1) Intermittent repetition (flashcards) is the name of the game. You force your brain to give an answer.

2) SLEEP! You will remember more if you go through REM sleep. Plus you won't feel tired. I have alarms on my phone that go off thirty minutes before I need to sleep in order to get my 8+ hours.

3) Make a daily schedule. Work out from x-y, study what you learned today, review yesterday, etc. Think of it like football; you need to make halftime adjustments or else you're going to dig yourself into a giant. Get rid of Romo (your current habits) and get someone better. I had a C in Org I and I raised it to a B in the last month.

1 science class? You don't know what that you're a B student yet. You might be a D student when the harder stuff comes.

Work hard and find your groove. I used to think I gave my all only to get straight B's. Learn how YOU study efficiently. It takes a lot of practice believe it or not.

It is really easy to fool yourself is thinking you know the subject, just don't hope you find that unraveling truth during an exam.

There is no easy way to become better, maybe you reached your limit, but you just have to keep on pushing. Remember that not everyone can become what they want, only the hard working can become what they want. Clearly if you are only getting a "B" then you're not working hard enough, in the eye of everyone else you're just a "average" student.

You're going to have to step up your game or end up lagging behind forever.

Thank you for all the replies guys. So I was taking an exam today, and I realized that I need to work on my memorization. Understanding concepts is not one bit of a problem for me--it's just remembering everything. Is memorizing really learning though??

If you have any friends who make A's ask them what they do.

I have a Class as a senior where if I got a 100 OR a 50, on the final, I'd still end up getting a B.

I find that it's necessary to have both, especially when you get to med school. Do you have practice exams? Review everything including the questions you got right and see if it was understanding the concepts or memorization. Answer choices, same thing.

If you're between answer choices, it's because you didn't understand the concept or you didn't memorize enough.

Guaranteed way to get As? Study smart everytime!

There were times where I overstudied and it didn't do jack. When I knew where my strengths and weakness were, my grades skyrocketed.

If the OP knew how to study smart, he wouldn't have made this thread 😉

I'm convinced the best way to get A's is to cheat by memorizing the textbook...

Ouch! Got me there. 😛

Unless there are questions on the the exam that come from the internet, then you would have to memorize the internet... 🙄

The internet is pretty small if you ignore all the adult websites 🙂
