UHS wait list

How many of you have been placed on the wait list for UHS??? I heard that presently they have filled all of their seats for next year.... So how many of the individuals that have been selected actually attend??

Are you on the waitlist? I was accepted about 1 month ago, but I have heard on only two or three SDNers who are waitlisted. Good luck.

hey optimisticdoc,

i was also put on the alternate list and initially when i called the woman i spoke with said that there could be movement of the alternate list late june/early july. i called more recently and was told the same thing that you were told... that the class is pretty much full at this point, so they may not be going to the waitlist afterall. i was initially majorly disappointed, because UHS is my first choice, but i've decided not to completely lose hope. anything is possible, i think, and... i'd like to stay positive about the process.

do you know how long they interview? do they accept enough to fill a class or extra? have you heard anything new since your posting? well... at least we can sympathize with one another... i'll let you know if i hear anything new... good luck to you!

I'm actually interviewing this Monday (5/20). I called the admissions office today and this is what I found out... I'd actually be interviewing for next years class and that I'd be on hold for this years class but only after those who have already been placed on the alternate list. I think she said that 30 some people are on the alternate list and that 20 people including myself would be considered for next years class between this Monday and Tuesday. I was also told that in some years they get to all people on the alternate list and in other years that get to very few. So that's the scoop.

I am also interviewing next week. I believe I spoke w/ Angela who told me differently from the above post. She said those accepted for next year's class would be considered FIRST for this year's class should spots become available, that is before the presently waitlisted bunch. So there is some confusion but this is what I'm fairly certain she said. Anyone w/ more details? Also I'm a late interviewer at KCOM, any help there? Thanks

hmmm... interesting information. when i called this week, i was told (by theresa) that the class is currently full and that the admissions committee would not be going to the alternate list this year... which was a little surprising to me, but that's what i was told.

i'm a little confused by part of OUsooner's post...

so... those who are accepted for next year's class would be considered BEFORE the people presently on the waitlist for this year? i'm sorry if this is WAY obvious, i just wanted to clarify because i often misunderstand the obvious. *smile*

That's correct PCS. I'm also confused by what she told me. But I'm fairly certain that she did say those accepted for next year's class would be considered BEFORE the waitlist applicants this year. I really want to go to UHS so hopefully it will work out. Also can anyone confirm the 30 estimate for those currently on the waitlist??? I think its reasonable to assume atleast 20 on UHS' large class will go elsewhere at this point, so there are many with a good shot at it!

My interview at UHS was completely conversational. Very easy adn nothing to worry about. If you are interviewing there, you are interviewing for a spot in the class not a wailtist spot. I personally would expect a good bit of movement from a class of this size. just relax. One interviewer I heard could be tough, but just be honest and youll do fine. If you get an interview you have a really good chance so you are past the hardest part. Good luck and PM me if you need any info

i'm still on for my interview on monday. anyone w/ any new info on the state of the waitlist at UHS? or info on the interview there? i hear its relaxed but I still want to be fully prepared. thanks

Hey OUsooner, I don't have much info on the way the UHS deals with waitlists and stuff, but I could share some info about the interview. I had mine back in early Feb. If you've been offered an interview you've been through the toughest part of the admissions process there (at least that's what the dean of admissions told us in early Feb). What most people have been saying is true about the interview - very low key, relaxed, no curve balls, just want to get to know you and what you're all about. Some of the questions that they asked me: Why osteopathic medicine; what would you do to balance out your hectic schedule should you be accepted; what are your thoughts on the debate about therapeutic/human cloning; what would you do about a patient who is in extreme pain and wants to die? There are no right or wrong answers, but they just want to know how you think. Advice: Just know why you want to go into medicine and be honest (i'm pretty sure they can see through lies). Hope that this helps, and hope that we'll be studying together soon!

Hi OUsooner,

My interview at UHS was also pretty relaxed, but be prepared in case you're asked to talk about some current medical or ethical topics--that kinda threw me a bit during my interview cuz it came out of nowhere during an otherwise conversational-type interview. But other than that, it was just the basic questions you've probably heard before.

All of the applicants I spoke to during the day had really nice interviewers--they were all really laid back and friendly, so I'm sure you'll be just as lucky. 🙂

I interviewed at uhs on May 26th. I was really worried about the interview, b/c i did not know what to expect. When everyone tells you that it is laid back....it really is. Trust me. My two interviewers were really nice, but one of them (Robert Masterson, D.O.) an alum of the school is the medical director for the medical management division of blue cross blue shield of KC. IF YOU HAVE THIS GUY BE PREPARED TO ANSWER QUESTIONS ABOUT MANAGED CARE. He did not ask me any questions of the type (thank the Lord), but he did ask these question to the two interviewers before me: What do you think of HMO's? and Are HMO's good for medical care? These are loaded questions considering he works for an insurance company, but the only advice I can give you is to stick by your answers. I would state my answer and then he would try to counter it by trying to get me to change my stance on the subject. This guy was somewhat intimidating, but I assume I made a good impression considering I got in. Anyway, if anyone has any other questions, feel free to email me.

The interview went well on Monday. Like most said it was relaxed but the D.O. did ask some unusual questions. The school is great and its the most impressive campus I've witnessed, although the surrounding area is indeed a bit ghetto (not a worry for me). I spoke with Angela today and there is still some confusion over who gets in for next year and who is waitlisted but she said it will be clear in the letter I recieve next week. Gonna kill time 'til then, jasjas did you get any additional info?? Thanks

Hello everyone. Who is completely confused with what UHS is doing with their admissions process. I interviewed May 6th and was told I would know by May 13th. On May 13th they told me they wouldn't know until May 24th. Then yesterday, they told me it would be the 23rd!!!! On top of it all, is the confusion with their wait list. Has anyone heard anything useful?

i talked to angela yesterday and she said it was different from what she had told me just one day earlier. originally i was told the students interviewing this week were indeed up for a spot for next year's class. then i was told that those admitted for next year's class would be considered BEFORE those waitlisted for this year's class in case seats became available. i called yesterday and spoke with angela to confirm this and she said there has been some change but everything would be clear in the letter i recieve next week. they are meeting tomorrow (may 23) to figure out the ins and outs and "waitlist" but we won't get the letter until next week. so now that i have spilled all the info i have, maybe we can all be confused together. anybody have any more info than this???

Hey there OUsooner,

I got some fairly decent news yesterday from UHS.
They have placed me on their waitlist. I know, not the ultimate answer but, it is better than nothing. They have also informed me that if I don't get called this year, I automatically have a seat without interviewing or reapplying next year.

If you haven't already, give them a call and they'll have some info for you I'm sure.

That's exactly what happened with me two years ago. Ultimately, a slot did open up for me. However, other outside factors kept me from attending until this year. I hope all works out for you and that we see you this August.

I talked to Angela in admissions today (Tues.) and she said that there are about 20 people on the waitlist right now. She also said that noone really has a specific "spot" on the waitlist...they dont prioritize the list until they start calling from it, as I understood it.
