Hello all, logistical question for you:

Most universities have at least a 10 year time limit on the science and math coursework, correct? I have been talking to UIC and was told that my courses (graduation in 2002) are fine and that I only need to make up the four courses that I have never taken (BIO 1&2, OChem 1&2). Every other university has advised me that I may want to take the courses again in order to be a viable candidate for admission to the PharmD program. Any thoughts on this? The person I am speaking to at UIC is an admissions counselor for the Pharmacy college, so I would think she would set me straight, but I am worried that I may have to backtrack and take courses from earlier series. I also don't want to put all of my eggs in one basket so to speak, but UIC may be the best option for me at this point (location, family, etc.). I appreciate any help and thanks. 👍

Do you have a bachelor's degree or will you be applying to pharmacy with no undergraduate degree? You need to contact each school you are interested in and inquire about their policies. It might not hurt to contact the school via e-mail instead of a phone call because then you have the information in writing.

I have a bachelors degree and am just filling in the blanks needed for admission. I do have it in writing from UIC that my credits are fine, but put me against another candidate with credits that are more recent, then where do I stand? I guess that is my question. It doesn't seem like too many people wait ten years to go back like I did.

BIOS 100 and 101 are easy. OChem 1 hard. Ochem2 = close to silver surfer on the NES.

Put against me, I would win.

Ok, let me pose this question: Even if you don't know the answer to this, whether or not it actually matters, what would you do in this situation? Retake the courses or take just the remainder with fingers crossed, knowing that if I do not get accepted anywhere I will have to go back and take the courses I took that are ten+ years old?

Even opinions could spark some ideas. Thanks!

It wouldn't hurt to have these refresher courses taken. Some professional schools would even require that the pre-requisite be completed within the past 5 years.

Give you mad props for wanting to go back after 10 years.

I would retake courses especially if you want to go to UIC. It would not only be to refresh the basics but also show addcom that you're motivated to do pharmacy. A couple courses wouldn't hurt.

Goodluck!

This is exactly how I feel but I guess I just wanted to hear someone else agree with me rather than thinking I am nuts to add time to an already lengthy degree. Thanks for the props. I am driven, so I'll get there 🙂 Thanks again!
