Hey Everyone,
I just got my alternate list letter today and wanted to see if there were others out there. I'm in the 1st quartile, but that's about all I know...

Yep, I got my letter too. I was also in the first quartile. It sounded hopeful but does anyone know what the chances actually are???

Looks like I'll be in either New York or Chicago next year, but it would be nice to know so I can actually find an apartment 😕

Hey guys - I don't know what your chances are for the alternate list, but I will be giving up my spot at UIC in the next week or two since I just got off the waitlist at Pritzker. Don't give up hope, and UIC is a great school 🙂 Good luck!

I got a letter yesterday too. I'm in 1st quartile...so we'll see!

Well everyone can't be in the 1st quartile right? : P

uh oh, i'm in the first quartile too. must be a big quartile!

I'd like to know if any of you get off of the wait list. So please keep us posted!

Yeah, i'm in the first quartile too.

Someone who knows more about this than me please help -- what are my chances of getting in somwhere? I'm currently waitlisted at st louis university and uic.

first quartile here....wtf...anyone know how many ppl are on the waitlist total?

I heard last year they took ZERO off the waitlist cuz the class was over the limit to begin with...anyone know anything else?

Also, this year, so far theyve taken ZERO off the waitlist..even though the may 15th deadline has come and gone.... 🙁

I had a friend who was on the waitlist, and its true, NOBODY got in. For all you on the waitlist, im sorry to say, but chances of you guys getting in is less than 0%. UIC had enough students for their class along with their GPPA program.

Is this info based on the current year? I would like to think that there is some hope because whenever I called and talked with the admission counselor, she always said the committee was careful in accepting people because of last year's class. I was under the impression that the committee made up a longer waitlist and accepted fewer students this year. Won't this mean some movement in the waitlist this summer? I really want to go to UIC.

Does anyone have any info on the incoming class...how full it is...etc.?

I really want to go to uic too!!!...as does everyone on this thread...prolly the reason why we're here..lol (If it was up to me I would accept you and everyone on this thread!)

but anyways...I was under the same impression as you in regards to UIC being careful this year with accepting a certain (lesser) amt of students...however...accordingly there should have been at least some movement on the waitlist since may 15th right?? (the day by which ppl need to make a choice abt what school they wanna go to).

There has been no movement, and as of may 15th...and right now...the class is full. So does that mean AGAIN this year they overaccepted students??

Also, you know how people say that some 15-20 ppl ultimately get switched out of the UPI track to the Chicago campus...I was wondering how that happens? Shouldn't that happen if the chicago campus ppl relinquish their spots? and if so, there should then be some waitlist movement!!!...but again...I dont know if they overaccepted again this year

Thats all I know for now, anyone with any more information please post!!

Also, as an aside, I was just wondering if the ppl on this thread and on the waitlist have been accepted somewhere else...I dont know for sure, but i am under the impression that because students have been accepted somewhere else, theyve been waitlisted...and students who havent were accepted to uic?? any thoughts on that...

When i interviewed there in december Dr. Girotti said that they are planning to accept 600 people, and that last year they had accomplished that to soon, which led to a class size of 330, or something, instead of 300. He said that they were going to accept slower this year by putting more people on hold to try and prevent that. He didnt say whether or not that included waitlist acceptances or just outright acceptances though. I looked at stats from us news, a year ago, and it said that they accepted 618 applicants. Its hard to say if that means that there is waitlist movement or if they offer 618 spots outright. MDapps info wasnt very convincing either way, in that most of the people who were waitlisted at UIC withdrew before final action was taken. I only found one waitlist acceptance that was from 2003. That at least shows that they do accept some off the wailist, but previous years might not be comparable since they changed it up a bit this year. Dr. Girotti did say that they didnt make their waitlist until may, so their waitlist might take longer to move then most, but thats just my speculation. I would think that with a class size of 300, that there would have to be some kind of movement on their waitlist, especially if they were being conservative this year, but that is also speculation. Honestly, i dont think that they would go through all the trouble of making a ranked waitlist (based on the previous first quartile posts) if they had no intention to use it. Good luck guys and gals, i hope they let you in.

As far as this goes, it is my understanding that people were moved over to Chicago at the last minute last year because Chicago could accommodate the excess number of students. So, that would not affect the waitlist.

When I interviewed, we were also told that they would be extremely conservative in their outright acceptances this year to prevent a repeat of last year's debacle. Therefore, don't give up hope just yet. We are not so far from May 15th yet. Besides, the schools have to wait till June to confer with each other on who is holding multiple acceptances and such so that they can start dropping people. I am sure all of this takes time. Unfortunately, the schools don't really know or care about the agony of the waiting game. Good luck to everyone though.

I'm also in the first quartile...personally I think its all a crock of ****...I really don't understand why med schools can't just rank and let you know where you are on the list....its such a bull crap system...I bet you everybody on the wait list is in the stupid first quartile

For those who are curious, I called the admission office today. No movement in the waitlist yet, and no empty seats. The counselor did say that as soon as a spot opens up, they plan on filling it up soon. :luck: :luck:

It will be nice if others post new info here too. Let's keep each other company. 😀

I got no new info, but I gotta agree with steve on this whole first quartile thing and the waitlist in general. I dont see how there will be significant movement, or any movement for that matter, now that we are soo far into the summer...cuz why would there be?

Hey guys,
Iv'e got err... optimistic news. Talked to the admissions department, andthey said that there are still students withdrawing acceptances (a few a week), and the woman said that while they havn't taken anyone from the waitlist yet she is "pretty sure it will happen soon". So, not a guarentee, but better than nothing. Also, I believe the end of June is the last chance for people to finally make up their mind without any disiplanary action (whatever that means), so the list might move.
On the down side, I am also in the 1st quartile, which I was excited about before reading this thread. Ohh well, good luck to everyone.

Means that schools get to see which students are holding on to multiple acceptances (waitlists don't count) and begin dropping them.

I hope that this doesn't sound strange...

considering that UIC COM has been interviewing approx. 850 applicants in the past, how many people do you think are on the waitlist? My guess is at least 100 if not more. Could it be as long as 200? Anyone?

I'm also in the 1st quartrile. Now that June 15th has come and gone by, we should hopefully hear something from them.

Edit: I called them up again and they said they are overfilled and there has been no movement on the waitlist at all. This is bad news. 🙁

I am bumping this thread for any news. :luck: :luck: :luck: :luck: :luck: :luck: :luck:

My Friend was on the 1st quart. of the waiting list for UIC last year. She found out in June some time. She kept on calling until 2 days before UIC's orientation in August and they always told her no one dropped from the list. She ended up not getting in. About a handful, if that, might be taken from the waitlist, because it only depends upon how many people decline UIC during the summer. Keep the hope guys!

So I called UIC today and found out there has been "a little bit" of waitlist movement so far this week. They anticipate more soon. I also found out that the waitlist is "quite extensive", which is never good. That is all I could manage to squeeze out of her. Hope it helps!

Same info here also. A couple of people have been pulled from the waitlist and they were contacted by phone.

Thanks for posting some good news. 🙂 I couldn't call UIC today and was glad to hear some update here. I am now dying to know how "extensive" the waitlist is!!! if there is only way to find out...

In any case, any movement in the UIC waitlist is a good news to me. I hope that many more get off to the waitlist of their choice and withdraw from UIC class or the waitlist.

For those who got off the UIC COM waitlist, if you are here, what helped you gain an acceptance? Did you do anything out of the ordinary after receiving the waitlist letter? UIC is the one for me, and if I don't get lucky this year, :meanie: there is 2007.

Let's not give up just yet! 😉

I got the call today offering me an acceptance...don't know if I am going to take it though...they gave me until Monday to decide. I wrote a thank you e-mail to Dr. Girotti, that's about all I did..I wish you the best of luck!

Does anyone know how many people are on the waitlist? Especially in the 1st Quartile?

I wish I knew...

Dude, I think the first quartile is the biggest quartile man...lol....

but honestly doesn't it seem like it...

I was hoping the 1st quartile is like 25 people, but it might be more like 50-60 people.

Did anyone get a call from the office?

I agree with Ilovelamp. My guess is that 1st quartile is at least about 50-60 people if not more. I hope that someone gets a call this week. :luck: :luck: :luck:

I doubt there are that many..if there are 50-60 in the first quartile, that would mean there are 200-240 on the waitlist in total.

I think they interview around 800 ppl and then accept like 500-600 so does a 200-240 person waitlist make sense?

Also. now, for every person who withdraws, there should be someone taken of the waitlist because they already dipped into the waitlist last week right...

I withdrew my acceptance today...good luck to you all!

that kinda makes sense. most people who are interviewed are either accepted or waitlisted...most people aren't rejected after an interview...so 800 interviews minus 500-600 acceptances would be 200-300 on the waitlist...

I called the office today and it seems like there has been a continuous movement this week. I couldn't dare ask about the number of people on the waitlist. I have asked before and she said that she did not know the exact number herself. Sigh. Anyhow, when she was explaining about the waitlist, she said "it is possible." I don't know what this means exactly, but I want to stay hopeful. :luck:

😀 🙄 😛 😳 😀

Ok, so I called today to make my usual Thursday checkup and this is what I got. There is continuing movement on the waitlist, and many people who are sent acceptances are rejecting them, so the list moves on. I asked about the size of the waitlist, specifically the 1st quartile, and she said she didn't know the size. Then I asked if there were like 25 people in the first quartile and she replied "well, the waitlist is rather extensive" which would seem to confirm what many have said about the list being large, or at least larger than 25. Can someone please find out how big the waitlist is!!!!

Im sure the lady knows the size, she just isn't telling us. They are playing mind games with us. Seriously they should include some sort of free psychiatric treatment once accepted into medical school. This is far too stressful.

Hahaha...free psychiatric treatment...that will save us alot of money.

although...if I get a call from Dr. Girotti, I think that all my unmet emotional needs will diffuse away and only happiness will remain. Until then, frustration and long stares at my phone.

Thanks for more info, Rockjock!

Hmmmm...tired of waiting. Almost ready to put down my housing deposit and give up hope. I'm just keeping tabs on the apartments I like so that they won't dissappear without me knowing. How much hope is everyone holding onto for UIC?

im in the same boat. just kind of looking for a roomate as well. Where are you off to, if u dont mind me asking. I really dont have much hope. my school starts early so i have very little time left (Orientation is July 24th). Ah oh well...

anyone call today?

of course i called uic again today. it wouldn't be thursday without those fun conversations. the guy today basically told me that by this point, most of the waitlist movement has already occured, but there could still be "a few more spots opening up" until august. he basically said it wasn't impossible, but definitely have a backup plan. that's all i know. hope it helps you more than it helped me! 🙂

This sucks. I thought I had a great shot of getting a call being put in the 1st quartile. But apparently not. This is so frustrating!!!! 😡

ok guys. good luck this week! if you hear anything, please let all of us know.

It seems too soon for all this to be over but the reality bites. 🙁 UIC started reassigning their incoming 1st year to Chicago site, so their class must be in pretty good shape by now. I thought that there would be more movement than we have seen on this site. (Maybe there are many people who doesn't post on SDN? Well it doesn't really make a difference now.) Sigh. I am sorry that most of us here haven't heard good news from them. Don't lose hope...where there is a will there is a way...and thanks for keeping me company. I probably visited this site more than 100 times since I received the waitlist letter.

If you don't mind sharing, what are your backup plans (post-bac, research, more clinical exp, classes, MCAT)? Do you all have another school to attend in the fall? As for me, I am re-taking the MCAT to raise some points.

BTW, does anyone know when UIC admission counselors are available to discuss my weakness for the next app. cycle?

My backup is SIU. I got accepted to VCU but didn't want to move. Plus it is so much less expensive...

Congrats on your success...I would killed to be in your spot. I just need one acceptance that will make me the happiest person on earth.
