Got rejected today from UIC because I have already completed an internship and was told by the residency coordinator that there are no PGY-2/CA-1 spots at that institution for July 2006. This is interesting since they are listed in ERAS as both "categorical" and "advanced." Did anyone else encounter this? Had I known about their lack of positions, I would have saved the $25 and no applied!

I am sorry am not answering your question but wanted to know whether one can reapply for a PGY-1 again after having completed a PGY-1 elsewhere, i.e. can you only apply for CA-1 positions in anesthesiology now.

You can't assume that a program will have a CA-1 spot open just because they have advanced spots on ERAS . Most programs (unless they don't fill, someone drops out or they save one or two CA-1 spots for applying interns) fill all those advanced spots a year in advanced when they fill their categorical spots (at least to my understanding....someone correct me if Im wrong). You have to call the program in advance and ask

You should have started a new thread. But, to answer your question, you can repeat your intern year if you like, but you will likely have funding issues due to the way GME is financed in this country mainly by Medicare. You would definitely have to contact each program individually as they will put your application in a separate pile once they have seen you have completed an internship. If you've completed an intern year, I can't understand why you would want to repeat unless you really want to go to a program that only takes applicants for 4 years.

I was talking about CA-1 positions for 2006 not for 2005. CA-1 positions for 2006 = Advanced (and you have to do a separate prelim year) starting in 2005.
