I heard It is a good school but you have to be resident in Illinois..

Hi guys. I'm a 3rd year at UIC. It is not that great to be honest with you. I came here because of residency/cost. Didactic and clinic is average. One major drawback is the prof's---they just don't care. The dean of students here is practically beyond reach for us if we have problems. I've spoken to friends over at Penn, Temple, and UOP and they say if you have problems/issues the faculty is available to help. Overall, it's ok, but i don;t know that I would recommend it IF you have other options.

I haven't posted in a while, but I came across this post and I needed to stick up for UIC. I'm a second year at UIC and I honestly can say that the profs do care. Like most schools you will have those that don't even know you exist, but every prof that I have encountered in my two years here so far have been great!

You probably have heard that we are getting into clinic earlier than most schools. I know that we will be treating patients in January and that is pretty much a semester earlier than the current D3s. There will always be varying viewpoints from every student so keep that in mind. Your expereince at any school will be based on how much effort you put into it.

Good luck!

Wow - what a difference in opinion.

Do you guys feel that going to UIC may have hampered your chance to specialize - how do students do on the boards?
What is the class dynamic like? Are the facilities really that bad? What does the admissions committe look for in an applicant? Finally, what's the area surrounding UIC like?

A major factor in my interest with UIC is the cost for instate students. I'm sure UOP or Penn students may paint their faculty as more student-friendly, but frankly I don't feel that warrents me taking out an additional $100,000 in loan money - maybe I'm wrong 😕

I'd greatly appreciate if you guys could share more of your experiences with UIC and living in Chicago. Feel free to pm me.

G'luck with your exams :luck:
