Hey,
I was wondering if anyone is applying for early review at UIC? If so, when did you submit your supplemental app. and have you heard anything back yet
Thanks!🙂

Just don't forget: if you are taking any pre-pharmacy classes this semester, you cannot submit your supplemental until you have grades for those fall classes.

Yea, I was fortunate enough to finish my last course this summer. 🙂

I'm applying to UIC, but I am taking pre-requisites in the spring of 2010. I can still submit my supplemental as long as im not taking pre-reqs right now right?

That's a good question. I'm not sure, because I know for regular decision they want fall semester grades, but I wonder if that applies since you're not taking pre-reqs this semester.

I actually got contacted by admissions from UIC. They told me as long as no pre-reqs are taken this fall I will be fine. However, all pre-reqs must be finished by the end of spring.

Don't wait for UIC to contact you about the supplemental app. It's available to everyone on the their website.

I submitted my UIC supps. Pre-reqs can be taken as long as all courses are complete at the end of spring '10. I still have two pre-reqs to complete.

I think I am gonna withdraw my application. I did my undergrad at UIC and I am kind of sick of it. Plus I have heard from a lot of people their experiences at UIC werent great. You get what you pay for and since its so cheap, your experience will be too. I just hear the professors don't really show much support and everyone is kind of on their own. I guess it just depends what you make of it. Im committing with Midwestern. Good luck to you all.

I'm also taking my last pre-req this academic year and waiting until I get my Fall 09 grades. Does it hurt your chances if you send your final application right before the deadline?

Depends when they start looking at applications. You obviously want to be looked at first, but if they begin reviewing after the deadline your in the same position as all the other applicants right?

I'm applying to UIC - I just mailed out my supplemental application out today... It's kind of my plan B though to be completely honest. Aside from docss26, however, I actually heard the exact opposite about UIC. It is also rated in the top10 pharmacy schools in the nation to further reinforce that opinion also. Could you elaborate a little more please? Is your decision based on what current pharmacy students say about the program or is it based on your undergrad experience there?

Does anyone here know a decent amount about the admissions process for UIC that I could send a few PM's too to ask about a few things? Thanks 🙂

About the top 10 thing, I didnt think there was official authority of reviewing pharmacy schools and that the current ratings you might be seeing arent correct. I could be wrong though..

My opinion on UIC pharmacy is based off of my experience during undergrad, living in the medical district, and opinions of current/past pharmacy students. Ive had the opportunity to see the pharmacy school and it definitely looks like its 90 years old. I know an equal amount of UIC/Midwestern students and comparatively MWU students are much happier and say they have a stronger support system from faculty and students. I am not bashing on UIC, im just saying my values and wants in a pharmacy school are leaning more towards MWU right now since my choices are between the two.

Again, I really believe your pharmacy experience is what you make of it. So please take my opinion with a grain of salt.

The UIC COP building was built in the early 1950s. You can even see the old fall-out shelter sign. There are been a lot of remodeling over the past few years. Currently, they are completing the escalator project. In the lecture halls, the seats have been replaced, walls repainted, new projectors installed, and new carpeting/tile has been laid. New furnitured has been placed in the entry foyer. The pharmacy practice office has been remodeled. The 2 North area, pharmacy practice lab, has been remodeled. The locker room has been remodeled. Also, the student lounge has been updated.

Most students have a good experience at UIC COP. You must remember undergrad and grad at UIC at two entirely different things. Everyone knows grad at UIC is better than undergrad. I did undergrad at UIC, and so I know both sides. The Medical District is not a pretty area. The area directly north of the college is under construction for a new Rush hospital.

The bigger issue is the surplus of pharmacists in the Chicago area. Many of you will have to leave the area when you are done with your education. If things stay as they are, and CSU remains accredited, which may or may not happen because the North Central association has strongly hinted they might loose their regional accreditation, things will be awful by the time you graduate.

If you PM me I may be able to help. I applied and was accepted last year.

I've seen the College of Pharmacy and was pretty impressed. Thanks for the input, especially about the surplus and CSU accreditation.

why did you withdraw it so soon?

I weighed out some of the pros and cons between each school and I feel that MWU is the right place for me. I did my undergrad at UIC and have lived in the medical district and its not the kind of atmosphere I want to experience in pharmacy school.

UIC Early Review Decisions were e-mailed out this afternoon!

Does anyone know when interviews letters are mailed out for regular decision?

interview invites approximately March/03/2010
Interview dates approximately March/20-27/2010
You will be accepted approximately 04/08/2010.

This varies by year. I think one year it hardly made it past 10.

I got an email on Friday notifying me that I have been selected for early review and will be contacted soon for an interview in the next week or two.

Does anyone know when they do interviews for early review and does that mean I will get an acceptance/rejection earlier too?

I had my interview on 12/3 and I heard back on 12/11. So I think they'll get back to your pretty fast, too.

When did you submit your supplemental application? Also what were your stats if you don't mind sharing?

Thanks

I sent in my supplemental in the first week of October and got my interview email on Friday.

GPA: 3.09
Pcat score: 92 composite

Any guesses when I should hear about interview and set up dates for early interviews?

I turned in my app 10/11 and I received an interview e-mail on 11/19. my interview was scheduled 12/3. They told me they had only interviewed ~8 people that day?

sorry i would prefer not to share my stats.

Thanks a bunch avuong. Your dates were spot on. Too bad I didn't realize this thread was posted, I would have worried a lot less if I had seen this post. How did you get these dates anyway?

Hi everyone,

I got an interview to UIC Pharmacy school coming up this week. Can anyone give me some tips as to what kind of questions they ask? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Their questions are based on how you would react to certain situations. They want to learn more about you as a person. The two main questions they ask are:
1) Have you ever been in a group situation in which one person is pulling his or her own weight and how did you deal with it?
2) Have you ever been in a situation in which you have been in alot of stress and how did you deal with it?

Make the interview 50/50 so its just not them asking you quesitons for the whole time. Feel free to ask them questions as well. I asked my interviewers questions like what their position was at the college and what they liked about their jobs. One question I asked was what was the hardest part of their job and my interviewer replied to that question for like 15min. Mine was a close case interview so they have no information about your records or even what school you did your prepharm classes at, so if you don't want them to know something, then don't bring it up. If you don't want to bring up your undergrad then use examples to answer your questions that involve your work experience in the pharmacy setting. If anyone has any further questions, please let me know. Thanks! Best of luck to everyone!

Wow, thanks a lot. I haven't really thought much about sending questions back at them. But whatever I did think, I considered:

(If they were a student/former student): How do you manage to handle your personal life with the demands of pharmacy school?

Has your interest in the field changed after going through pharmacy school?

Any suggestions of your own?

Agains thanks!

Good questions. Ask stuff in which you can ask and they can answer in more than one word, otherwise it will just bore them if they keep asking you stuff. But don't go into their private life too much, unless they say i have a daughter or I own pets then its ok to ask how old's your daughter or what kind of pets. Feel free if you have any other questions. 🙂
