The out of state tuition for UIC seems prohibitively expensive. How are people dealing with this, other than applying for loans/grants?

Is it possible to satisfy the in-state requirements after living in Illinois for one year while attending UIC?
I.e. Pay OOS tuition for 1st year, then in state for the rest of the years?

My best guess is that not too many people get into this predicament in the first place (in other words, they don't apply there from OOS)...are you saying that you were not aware of the OOS tuition when you applied?

As to your switching state residency, I would think you might have looked into that before now...the best source for this information is UIC, not SDN...

it is very hard to get residency especially because there is a stipulation that if your sole purpose in I'll is to go to shool you can't get it. the one of the only ways they mentioned at the interview was to marry an instate working resident. that's the only one I can remember.

I went to UIUC (in Champaign) for undergrad from OOS. Getting residency was basically impossible. I imagine the rules for UIC COM are similar.

flip, if you don't have any advice or knowledge on a subject, just don't post. Unless you get your jollies with posts like this, it's a waste of your time and certainly a waste of ours.

Absolutely, unequivicably no. At my interview day last year, this was asked five ways to Sunday and the answer is no. Like many schools, if you are an out of state student upon acceptance, you will remain an out of state student for all four years. You can't become a resident for tuition purposes while studying in the state full-time.

Sorry. It's a pricey school, all right.

Way off topic but does anyone know if a person can defer enrollment to UIC while applying to other schools? I would contact UIC about this but it is kind of an annoying question to be asked...

For most schools, you need a pretty explicit reason for why you are deferring and the ones I've heard of, you need to agree not to reapply to medical school.

I'm right there with you on this one, just got my financial aid packet back from UIC last week and it was devastating to say the least. My EFC was basically zero and yet almost all the aid included only loans, half of which are grad plus loans which accrue interest quarterly. No grants. 2008-2009 estimated cost of attendance: $76,000+

$76k? Oh my god. What on earth does in-state CoA look like? :scared:
