UIC question

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I called Brauilia last week and she told me that they are finishing up interviews and should be done by Feb....you should try calling her. Her number is 312-355-0320

Next week, my friend...We should hear back next week.

I got the call from them yesterday around 3pm. I will give up my spot...I'm going to SIU =)

anyone know if they handed out all of their acceptances?

My interview was in December

Why would you say epic fail?

Lol I'm sure he was just kidding. But its probably because SIU is in Carbondale and UIC is in Chicago.....big difference. But I'm sure it doesn't matter to you anyways since you got into dental school and that's all that matters!

Good Luck at SIU!👍

SIU is actually in Alton.

Don't try calling her. She told us on our interview it is annoying and doesn't help your chances at all. They know you are anxious and interested or you would not have applied.

I just had an interview and they didn't really give us any time frame as to when we'd be hearing. Where did you get this?

I called a couple of weeks ago, and Braulia said we (Dec, early Jan interviewees) should hear first week of Feb, or so.

they are both nice! you're right, carolyn is super nice though, she let me put my suitcase in her office

Here we going w/ the pros and cons of SIU vs. UIC. SIU is 15 minutes from STL. Middle of nowhere is SIUC.

You can argue all day that SIU is a better school, better facilities, better board scores, ect. And you might be right. But let's be honest, St. Louis blows and Chicago is awesome. But SIU isn't even in St. Louis, it's 30 minutes away (15 min if you're going 110 mph) in Alton. Which explains why students have nothing else to do but study, so SIU has the 4th highest board scores in the nation 👍

Gee, another snide comment from an SDN member, who would have seen that coming...

Sorry to engage in this worn-out and ultimately useless discussion, but this kind of comment is so corny it has to be addressed. Yes, St. Louis isn't Chicago, just like Chicago isn't New York or LA, but it's only your opinion that St. Louis "blows". The city has a great deal to offer, and dental students, who are going to be busy and financially limited unless they are obtaining support from their parents, are going to be able to enjoy the same things in St. Louis as they could in Chicago. I have friends who live in both cities, and I have spent a great deal of time in both, and they are each wonderful places to live. I also know dental students at SIU who live in downtown St. Louis, and having made the commute from St. Louis to Alton, I can tell you it is not 30 minutes... it's 20 at the most. Please try to be less judgmental. You can have a problem with a school but trashing it for absolutely no reason is simply juvenile. What does it matter where people choose to go? I am currently deciding between both of these schools, the decision is not as easy as "Chicago vs. St. Louis". Not everyone can or chooses to go to UIC, so perhaps you should let them decide what is best for them instead of issuing your opinion as fact. I would think a dental student would be more mature than that.

yea that probably came off harsh haha.. i just got a better vibe from carolyn but as far as the whole decision thing goes... i went to uic for undergrad and lived there last year its fun and all that but everything is really expensive (including the beer, the most important factor here haha)

i just asked myself, all things considered, where will i be happiest.... so i changed it up and decided to go on an adventure to alton

First of all, I'm glad you opened a new username to say that, takes balls...

Anyways, I never said that the decision was "as easy as Chicago vs. St. Louis", nor did I say that UIC was a better school than SIU, in fact I hinted at the reverse. The only fact I stated is that Chicago is an amazing city, and St. Louis doesn't even come close. Which is a fact. You won't be able to enjoy the same things in St. Louis as in Chicago, with the exception of great baseball and gang violence, that's about all they have in common.

I was talking about the cities, not the schools. They are both fantastic schools, SIU having the edge in many ways, and any dental student would be blessed to have the choice between the two, but if one was to choose solely on city and social/cultural atmosphere, the choice is clear. That is a fact.

i gotta agree with everything youve said however ironically enough i found the boringness of alton as a positive point cause if i lived downtown in chicago id probably just end up getting drunk with my best friends everyday haha

so true haha. that's why my grades are so mediocre at Tufts haha, I'm sure it'd be the same way if I was in Chicago lol

for people choosing between UIC and SIU, if you want to get top grades and specialize and/or have no self control, you might be better off going to SIU 😉

yea good call... especially cause i lived at uic last year for undergrad and i told myself i wouldnt dick around but you totally do anyway..

Again, opinion. Agree to disagree, I suppose. Firstly, gang violence? I know that was a sarcastic remark, but having grown up 20 minutes from downton Chicago, I know firsthand that that city is twice the warzone Stl will ever be. Saint Louis doesn't have EXACTLY as much to offer as Chicago, but it has a great deal that anyone will be glad to experience. I know a large amount of friends and family who have moved there, many of whom lived in Chicago most of their lives, and simply love it. The point of my post was not to discuss the schools but to address you issuing your opinion between the two cities as true factual reason why SIU would be a disadvantage. I would not tell anyone not to live in either city if that was up to them, I suppose I just don't understand why anyone would be that critical, overopinionated and judgemental, but that's just me. I respect your opinion, just not the way you express it.

ordinary - is it true that the post bac program is only for URM? What are the stipulations for guaranteed acceptance the following year? What classes do you take with the D1s? Do you have to retake the classes from the program the following year, or does the credit transfer to your D1 year? How many students are in the program?

Thank you for your input!
