I'm a pre med wanting to go to UIC (next application cycle) and I want to know how much of a chance I have. People who got accepted in UIC can you put your stats in here?? Thanks!

Try to get the best stats you can. What I would recommend is to have involvement in the community like volunteering (especially if in Illinois), have strong research experiences, and look into leadership/social justice experiences too.

Detailed info is available on MSAR, which you should probably look at for any school you are thinking of applying to. It costs I think 15$ but is worth it for creating a school list imo. This is assuming you are talking about just straight MCAT and gpa stats (which also should be on their website). Honestly, your work and activities, service, clinical experience, research, social justice, writing, etc and mission fit + residency/region you are from are likely more important for most state schools (obviously you should do the best you can, but its not like with johns hopkins where applying with a certain MCAT score is like sending them a donation).

(Also make a post to WAMC)

It's funny, I just gave a free consultation today to someone who also had her heart set on a specific medical school in the Chicago area. I'll give you the same advice i gave her.

It's fine to want to have a first choice program. BUT don't set your heart on it. Realize that if you go to another medical school, you will still be a doctor . Be realistic.

To enhance your chances of getting into UIC, learn as much about the program as you can:
  • Attend events at UIC for premeds if that is geographically possible. If not, attend online events.
  • Follow their social media.
  • Check out their MSAR as mentioned above to make sure you have competitive stats.
  • Comb UIC's web site.
  • If you can connect with current students. Invite them to a coffee chat when possible.
  • If there is an attractive research opportunity there and you are close to the UIC campus, see if you can't get involved in that project.

    Good luck!

3.82/526, IL resident and attended undergrad in Chicago (not UIC tho). Stats aside, I think having a strong record of clinical work with underserved patients in/around Chicago as well as service got me in. The hard part is getting an interview as they have a very high post-II A-rate (admit.org has it at like 96% for in-state applicants)

Why don’t you post your info using the WAMC grid?

Here’s the grid.

Matriculating into medical school is all about how many different programs you apply to so that random chance is minimized when it comes to the review of your application. The best way to do this is to apply early, and really emphasize in your secondary application why you WILL matriculate if given a seat. This must be well crafted, because medical schools do not just look for prospective medical students. They look for formative alumni that will change the practice. Describe how you will use their unique academic program, resources, city, experiences, etc to become that prominent alumni and why you can't necessarily achieve those goals at another institution.
