Currently, I am deciding whether to attend UIC (most likely Rockford campus) or SIU. Could anyone help me with some arguments why one of these is better than the other? Please disregard the tuition differences, since I am already aware of these.

Thank you so much for your input!

What are your professional and personal goals? It doesn't matter how we view them without any input about what matters to you - I could love a PBL-based curriculum but you might hate it. What do you like vs. dislike about the schools?

My main goal is to secure a competitive residency. I am not really interested in primary care. That said, I would like to pick a school that will give me the biggest chance to get a competitive residency and in the end a job at a respectable hospital.
Any additional factors (that I did not mention) are also welcome.

SIU's entire focus is generating primary care physicians to serve central and southern Illinois. I don't think any specialty is technically off limits at SIU, but UIC would definitely give you more support looking at competitive, non-pc residency programs, even though the Rockford campus is known for it's rural medicine program.
