who is this....?

obviously im not studying for ceutics tomorrow

A lot of our classmates live all around. I personally live off of 281 and Bitters. Some of the complexes close to school are: The Keystone and The Crescent. They are in a great area - a little on the pricey side but very close. My complex is called Remington Ranch - I love it (will be there for my second year) and there are a couple others there right now too. It takes about 15-20 minutes to get to school. Some that live in the medical center are actually trying to move a little closer, but the housing is cheaper out there. Stone Oak area is pretty far north, but they have some nice apartment complexes - again, some people are trying to move a little closer. Good luck! Hope this helps!

Thanks for the information, im actually going to start looking for housing in mid early july is that too late or just fine?

Also: to all our 2013 classmates we should start a list of people who needs roommates so it'll be a little easier for all of us. i'll start.

Hey ppl. My name is Zia. I got accepted into the class on 2013. I am from florida and will be moving there in August.
Congrats to everyone that got in. I hope we all enjoy the next 4 years. Cheers.:soexcited:

Wow man, Congrats! Better enjoy India this summer before next semester starts!

Congrats to you Zia! Yes, enjoy your LAST SUMMER VACATION😱:scared:(Im joking by the way:meanie:) Im sure everyone has met some us during the interviews. Please, when you get to school on the first day of orientation, introduce yourself again (because I am very bad with names)🙁and if you need anything just ask, and we will be glad to help you all out.

As for my living, I live on I-10 and UTSA Blvd (Yes, mr. lxapillpusher, you can already guess who I am 😎). Its about a 30 min drive commute every morning at 7am. If I leave for school at 7:30, i will get to school by about 8:15-8:30 am depending on how bad the traffic is near UTSA. I live litterally walking distance (2 and 1/2 to 3 miles away) from UTSA, so traffic gets pretty bad in the morning. I live in a house with my buddies from high school, but in general, apartments over here are generally VERY cheap, and are even Cheaper as you move closer to the medical center.:soexcited: For those that like the commute and want to save the $$$ for some play time, i suggest living around this area (its A WHOLE LOT safer area then others):ninja:. For those that are not morning people (like myself, which i will be moving this summer to a closer place), I suggest getting a place around the 281 and 410 area. Its closer to school, its relatively safe, and its a 10-15 min commute.

As for students who are looking into dorm stay, I have friends in class who stay in the dorms (one of which walks to school daily = morning exercise). They generally like it, because its close, and convenient.

Study hard those of you in my class, for immuno tomarrow! Peace!

Immuno tomorrow will be cake. Ceutics wasn't that bad neither by the way. But yes, i think i MIGHT know who this is...only one person that i can think of with those initials...

For those looking for housing, I'll get the number to an apartment locator that I know. She's really good and can get you some pretty good deals. She's wired in with the majority of apartment complexes around here. Congrats on getting in and we'll see you in August!

As an aside, the apartment locator doesn't get paid by you, but by the complex. She finds out what and where you're looking for and gives you options so kind of have an idea of at least what you want. She can usually get you a few months free as well. Cheers!

whats sup Zia looks like we'll be spending the next four years together. I certainly can't wait. :-D hopefully more of our classmates find this thread soon.

I'm so excited! I can't wait to start school! Gosh! I need to go shopping!!!

Hey Class of 2013! Congrats to everyone that got accepted! I got accepted as well! Hope to see everyone soon. This class is gonna be a blast! haha

👍Congrats buddy!

Has anyone had a chance to take a look at housing in San Antonio yet?😕

I would suggest many of you to start researching that now, just to pick out the area you like, because the summer rush for housing will be VERY VERY SOOON!!!😱....

Alrighty, ask if you have any questions!

Funny you should ask about these apartments, because I have friends who live at all three places and they all seem to REALLY love their places. It just really depends on what you want. Do you plan to have any roomates? or live by yourself? Do you mind driving or do you want to live close to school? Have you taken a look personally at these apartments (I noticed that you are from Cali, but i didnt know if you have already been to all three of the apartments)? What is your price range? What I might suggest is to 1) if you havent already, take a look at the places personally and 2)try the commute to and from school during the rush hours(6-8am and 4-7pm Mon-Thurs) just so that you know how bad it is during those times - in case you get caught in traffic(which occurred to MANY of us). If you dont mind the drive, might I suggest looking at places near the medical center? they have cheaper apartments, but are just as nice as all three of those places (if not even better)...Hope this helps...

Do you have that number and name of the apartment locator. I was wanting to come check out apartments this week in San Antonio. Thanks

Hey MonkeyTea, I have work and summer school (physics w calculus..eww) so I won't be able to take a look at these apartments personally. I want to live close to campus, but they more expensive...so I'm looking at places that are 10-15 minutes away. I haven't received my financial aid packet yet, so not sure how much loan money I can max out...so i'll probably have a roommate my first year. From Altamonte apartments....do you know if there is a lot of traffic to campus? Do you remember when you received your reward letter last year?

To answer your questions there, I would HIGHLY recommend places around this area. Majority of the students in my class and the classes above me live around 281 and bitters. To answer your question about the drive time. I would say it would be about a 15 min drive during normal rush hour traffic (which is what you will be driving in because of your early class schedules next year - 8 or 8:30am class start)😎. For the answer to the award letter, I believe I got my letter 2 weeks before school started. I will check with the OSA office today for you and check on the details of that 😉

Great Job setting up the roomate set up! Many people from my class began this year as roomates and simply swapped with other roomates which is ALWAYS fun to get to know more people.😀

Do you have that number and name of the apartment locator. I was wanting to come check out apartments this week in San Antonio. Thanks

What I would suggest that you do, since I dont know what you specifically want and your budget is for rent, is to do a google/yahoo search on apartments around the san antonio area, that way you have a general idea of what you want and prices. What I would suggest as well is to look on both facebook and in previous posts to see what I and other students have written about living considerations. Hope this helps!:luck:

If anyone else has any questions please feel free to ask!

If you guys don't mid me asking, I was just wondering around how much loans everyone received if your EFC is 0. And did you guys have to get outside loans or was financial aid enough to cover for everything?

I could really use the name/number of that apartment locator you know. The last couple I contacted seemed pretty lazy and uninterested.

Hey guys! Congrats to everyone that has gotten accepted so far!! If you're coming from out of town and are wanting to get an apartment, I know a great apartment locator that will get you some pretty good deals. She's the sister of a girl I work with. Her name is Lisa Pegues and her company is called Apartments NOW! She is a licensed real estate agent. Her office phone is (210) 558-7377, Cell (210) 844-7094, toll free 866-558-7377, fax (210) 558-7373. Her address is 11255 Huebner Rd. Ste 112 San Antonio, TX 78230 in the Strand at Huebner Oaks shopping center. Her email is [email protected]

She is dialed in to just about every complex in the city and can get you good deals at just about every one of them. If you tell her what you are looking for and the price, she will come up with options she can return to you.

I also posted the same info in the facebook group for your class. Good luck in finding an apartment and enjoy the summer!

First, Thanks Irish for posting that info on the apartment locator.

I was also wondering if anyone has experience with or plans on attending pharmacy school with their spouse/significant other 😍 . I'm involved in a serious relationship and considering living with that person when I start school this fall. He works full time but he can relocate and keep his job. I'm worried that his presence there will be distracting from my studies since I'll want to do fun things with him rather than study 24/7. I've heard how demanding the first year of school can be. OTOH, it could be helpful to have someone to cook/clean when I'm too busy 🙂

I'm also considering a long-distance relationship for the first semester while I get settled into my routine. That of course carries it's own set of challenges, one being that he strongly prefers to move with me to SA.

I know these questions are hard to answer since so much depends on each individual relationship, but any advice or recommendations would be appreciated. I value my relationship, but I don't want to fail out of school.

You can do it living with him, but you two will have to come to an understanding that school must come first. This is the start of your career and you have to make it through. There are a lot of people that stay at campus after class to do their studying of the day's material (which I highly recommend doing, whether at campus or elsewhere) before they go home to their significant other. You won't have as much time during the week, but if you keep up with the material, you should have plenty of time on the weekends to spend time together. It will be an adjustment, but it will all be worth it. The main thing is, you have to section your time and manage it well. That's a big part of being successful in pharmacy school, possibly more important that the material itself. I think it will be beneficial to have someone that you feel that strongly about here to help support you and give you encouragement through the adjustment to pharmacy school. If you can deal with not being able to see and hang out with him until later in the evening during the week, I'd say go for it.

hey kobibobi! just received my award letter today. my EFC is also 0 and the financial awards doesn't seem enough. good thing i found a roommate...i might need to work part time too.

My class was capped at around $40K a year in loans. I don't know what they will set your tuition to be, but after all tuition, fees and other things I have to pay the school I have about $5K or $6K a semester to live on. Not a huge amount of money and I usually work a few saturdays a month to augment my monthly budget. I'm going to see if I can petition the dean to allow us to take out an additional $2-$3K a year in loans. Even if you do that for 4 years, it's only an additional $12K total at max. A drop in the bucket when you consider how much is already being taken out. Also, after your first year if you get any scholarships, that doesn't mean you can take out that much more in loans and have extra, it means you don't have to take that out but you still have the same amount to work with.

Hi MonkeyTea,

I filled out my FAFSA a few months back and I haven't gotten my award letter. Aside from filling out the FAFSA is there anything else that I'm suppose to send to the financial aid office or will UIW just send the award letter? Also, thanks for posting the schedule.

Just call the financial aid office, or if you're in town drop by, to see if there's anything else you need to do. I know there's some student info sheet you have to fill out as well. I hate to say it, but it's been a few years since I had to do all that and I can't remember when they sent out the award letter and all that. I do know that you have to make a separate application for grad plus loans. You will be authorized them, but they won't automatically come to you like stafford's do.

Thanks IrishRXMan,

It's been a few years for me also since I've gone through the financial aid process. I will be calling on Monday.

I know I'm still on the wait list but just curious about the tentative schedule. What is the ASAP Exam on Aug. 14th?

It's nothing you have to worry about until after your first year. It's a test that they compose that covers all the courses you took the previous year as sort of a way of confirming that the material stuck and you will pass the NAPLEX when the time comes. I forget what it stands for, but after your P1 year, it's not so bad.

Hi Monkey, Thanks for the schedule. How do I PM you with my email so I can get the book list. I hear books are extremely expensive first year. About how much would you say you spent total on books? Also, can people buy used ones online if not in the store?

Hello Class of 2013!

Congrats on getting in! I have a few P1 books for sale. If you are interested, please email me at [email protected].

- Essential Biochemistry (For Biochem class) - I bought it used so it already had some highlighting in it. Asking $40 for it.
- Vander's Human Physiology (For A&P I and II) - like new condition, some highlighting. Asking $75.

Thanks!
Hope to see you all in August!

Hey Everyone,

I just got my packet this morning and had a question about the laptop. I have a MacBook and am happy with it, however I am worried, because it is not the recommended Dell. Do yall think my MacBook will sufficent?

Does anyone in the other classes have a MacBook?

Thanks!!

Does $40,000 include the Graduate Plus Loan too or just Federal Loan?

You won't get a huge amount of Stafford loans, around 13K I think. The bulk of the 40K is Grad Plus loans. You get to choose the bank, but it doesn't really matter much because they will most likely get sold after a year to a student loan clearing house like Sally Mae. If you're lucky, they'll get sold to North Texas Higher Education Servicing Corporation or EdFinancial. They are less bastardly than Sally Mae. If you have any more questions, I'd give the financial aid office a call.
